Coil (band)
Coil were an English experimental music group formed in 1982 in London and dissolved in 2005. Initially envisioned as a solo project by musician John Balance (of the band Psychic TV), Coil evolved into a full-time project with the addition of his partner and Psychic TV bandmate Peter Christopherson (formerly of pioneering industrial music group Throbbing Gristle). Coil's work explored themes related to the occult, sexuality, alchemy, and drugs while influencing genres such as gothic rock, neofolk and dark ambient. AllMusic called the group "one of the most beloved, mythologized groups to emerge from the British post-industrial scene." Robert Gillespie ( ; born 22 June 1961) is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is the lead singer, founding member, primary lyricist, and sole continuous member of the alternative rock band Primal Scream. Jesse Bonds Weaver Jr. (born June 22, 1962), better known by the stage name Schoolly D, is an American rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Danny Saber (born 1966) is a musician in Los Angeles. He is an audio engineer, record producer, and remixer as well. He is a former member of Black Grape and Agent Provocateur. DJ Dan Peppe is a British record producer. In the mid to late '90s Peppe was a member of the group, Agent Provocateur alongside John Gosling (of Psychic TV), Matthew Ashman (originally of Bow Wow Wow) Danny Saber (of Black Grape) and Cleo Torez. Peppe went on to record under the name Themroc. He was also a member of Jon Carter's electronica band Monkey Mafia. In 2000 Peppe released his first material under the Themroc name, which is taken from the title of an avant garde French movie from 1972 by Claude Faraldo.
