Mejiro, Tokyo
is a residential district of Toshima, Tokyo, Toshima, Tokyo, Japan, centered at Mejiro Station of Yamanote Line. The district's name (literally "white eyes") is after ''Mejiro acala, Fudō'', which is one of the ''Goshiki Fudō''. Mejiro is home to the prestigious Gakushuin University. The university's predecessor was established in 1877 to educate the children of kazoku, the nobility. Its notable alumni include most members of the present Imperial House of Japan as well as the 59th Prime Minister of Japan Tarō Asō. Warbling White-eye
The warbling white-eye (''Zosterops japonicus'') is a small passerine bird in the white-eye family. The specific epithet is occasionally written ''japonica'', but this is incorrect due to the gender of the genus. Its native range includes much of East Asia, including the Russian Far East, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and the Philippines. It has been intentionally introduced to other parts of the world as a pet and as pest control, with mixed results. As one of the native species of the Japanese islands, it has been depicted in Japanese art on numerous occasions, and historically was kept as a cage bird. Taxonomy The warbling white-eye was described by the ornithologists Coenraad Jacob Temminck and Hermann Schlegel in 1847 from a specimen collected in Japan. Kenji Kurosaki
is a Japanese martial arts instructor, specializing in full-contact karate and kickboxing. He is a 7th ''dan'' black belt in Kyokushin Karate and operates various martial schools. He is most well known as a pioneer of full-contact karate and kickboxing in both Japan and the Netherlands. Biography Early kyokushin Kurosaki began studying Goju-Ryu Karate in 1951 at the "Asakusa-dojo" under Gogen Yamaguchi where Masutatsu Oyama also trained. After Mas Oyama left in 1953 to open the Oyama Dojo in Ikebukuro, Kurosaki became one of the instructors alongside Masashi Ishibashi and . Mejiro Gym is a kickboxing gym headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. History Mejiro Gym was founded in 1978 by Jan Plas, a Dutch kickboxer who learned kickboxing from Kenji Kurosaki, a Japanese martial artist who founded the original Mejiro Gym in Mejiro, Tokyo. Vos Gym founder Johan Vos and FFC founder Lucien Carbin were among the founding members of Mejiro Gym Amsterdam. With its well-known fighters including Rob Kaman and Peter Aerts, Mejiro Gym has become one of the most famous and accomplished kickboxing gyms in the world. Mejiro McQueen
was a Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse and Horse breeding#Terminology, sire. He was a late-maturing horse who did not emerge as a top-class performer until the autumn of his three-year-old season when he won the Kikuka Sho. Over the next three years he proved himself one of the best stayers in Japan with wins in the Tenno Sho (twice), Takarazuka Kinen, Osaka Hai, Kyōto Daishōten (twice) and Hanshin Daishoten (twice). He won the JRA Award for Best Older Male Horse in 1991 and was inducted into the Japan Racing Association Hall of Fame shortly after his retirement from racing. is a railway station on the Yamanote Line in Toshima, Tokyo, Japan, operated by the East Japan Railway Company (JR East). Lines Mejiro Station is served by the circular Yamanote Line. is a private university in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1923, it was chartered as a women's junior college in 1963, and expanded into a four-year university in 1994. The institution also has facilities in Saitama, Saitama, Saitama, Saitama Prefecture, including the Iwatsuki Campus and the National Saitama Hospital Campus. Mejiro-no-Mori
is a public wooded area in Toshima Ward, Tokyo, Japan. Officially, it is not a public park, but a "forest for the residents of the ward" () as designated by Toshima Ward. It is open throughout the year. Facilities Mejiro-no-Mori mainly consists of a small wooded area, but there are also benches, a log house (information center), a toilet with wheelchair access, a small pond (called ''Tonbo Ike'' (Dragonfly Pond)) and a sculpture.
