Meghan Grieves
Meghan Grieves (born May 3, 1994) is an American professional ice hockey player with the PWHPA, and formerly with the Boston Blades in the CWHL. She played Division 1 Hockey for Boston College, graduating in 2016. Personal life Grieves is originally from Cary, North Carolina. She attended Culver Academies for high school, where she graduated Cum Laude and played on the Varsity Softball, and Varsity Ice Hockey teams. During college, Grieves played in the NCAA for Boston College on the women's ice hockey team. She Graduated in 2016 with a major in Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, and a minor in Management and Leadership in the Carroll School of Management. Boston College Eagles Women's Ice Hockey
The Boston College Eagles women's ice hockey team represent Boston College in the NCAA and participate in Hockey East. The Eagles are coached by former Olympic gold medallist Katie King-Crowley and play their home games at Conte Forum. They have won the Hockey East championship three times, and made seven trips to the Frozen Four of the NCAA tournament. History The Boston Eagles women's ice hockey program was launched in 1994, under head coach Tom O'Malley, who oversaw the development of the program for five years. In 1999, Tom Babson took the helm and coached for four seasons. In the early years, the team competed in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) but struggled to build a competitive program, largely due to the school being generally unsupportive financially. Kate Leary
Kate Leary (born August 10, 1993) is an American ice hockey forward, currently playing for the Metropolitan Riveters of the Premier Hockey Federation. Career Across four seasons with Boston College Eagles women's icy hockey, Leary never missed a game, and was awarded the Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Achievement Honours in her sophomore season. Leary's rookie season in the CWHL came the year the formation of the NWHL, which saw many star players switch leagues. Joining the CWHL, Leary quickly became one of the top scorers for the Boston Blades, scoring 10 goals and 6 assists in 24 games, almost a third of the team's goals, and the highest scoring American player in the league. After two years in the CWHL, Leary left to play for HC Lugano in Switzerland, where she scored 33 goals in 20 games, and was the league's leading scorer, and won the league championship. 3rd Canadian Women's Hockey League All-Star Game
The 3rd Canadian Women's Hockey League All-Star Game took place on February 12, 2017, at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The event featured three 20-minute periods, and 34 players were named as participants Jess Jones and Jillian Saulnier both scored a hat trick, becoming the first competitors in CWHL All-Star Game history to achieve the feat. Boston Pride
The Boston Pride was a professional women's ice hockey team based in Boston, Massachusetts. It was one of the four charter franchises of the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF). The Pride played at Warrior Ice Arena, which is also the practice facility for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League. The Pride won the inaugural Isobel Cup in 2016 and became the first professional women's ice hockey team to win three championship titles when they claimed consecutive victories in 2021 and 2022. The team folded at the end of the 2023 season, when the PHF's assets were purchased and the league dissolved as part of the process of creating a new, unified, women's professional league. 2016 CWHL Draft
The 2016 draft for the Canadian Women's Hockey League took place on August 21, 2016. Players must register before midnight on August 1, 2016, and pay an entry fee of CDN $150. By virtue of finishing with the worst record during the 2015-16 CWHL regular season, the Boston Blades selected first overall. Forward (ice Hockey)
In ice hockey, a forward is a player, and a position on the ice, whose primary responsibility is to score and assist goals. Generally, the forwards try to stay in three different lanes of the ice from goal to goal. It is not mandatory, however, to stay in a lane. Staying in a lane aids in forming the common offensive strategy known as a triangle. One forward obtains the puck and then the forwards pass it between themselves making the goalie move side to side. This strategy opens up the net for scoring opportunities. This strategy allows for a constant flow of the play, attempting to maintain the control of play by one team in the offensive zone. The forwards can pass to the defence players playing at the Blue line (ice hockey), blue line, thus freeing up the play and allowing either a shot from the point (blue line position where the defence stands) or a pass back to the offence. Culver Academies is a college preparatory boarding school in Culver, Indiana, which is composed of three entities: Culver Military Academy (CMA) for boys, Culver Girls Academy (CGA), and the Culver Summer Schools and Camps (CSSC).
