Megaera ( ; grc, Μέγαιρα, Mégaira, the jealous one) is one of the Erinyes, Eumenides or "Furies" in Greek mythology. ''Bibliotheca Classica'' states "According to the most received opinions, they were three in number, Tisiphone, "Megaera ... daughter of Nyx and Acheron", and Alecto". In other versions, she and her sisters, as well as the Meliae, were born of the blood of Uranus (mythology), Uranus when Cronus castrated him. In modern French (), Portuguese (), Modern Greek (), Italian (), Russian (), Ukrainian () and Czech (), this name denotes a jealous or spiteful woman. She is not to be confused with Megara (mythology), Megara, the wife of Heracles. Cultural depictions Minor planet 464 Megaira is named in her honour. The ''Divine Comedy'' ( it, Divina Commedia ) is an Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun 1308 and completed in around 1321, shortly before the author's death. 464 Megaira ('' prov. designation:'' ''or'' ) is a dark and large background asteroid, approximately in diameter, located in the central region of the asteroid belt. It was discovered by astronomer Max Wolf at the Heidelberg Observatory in southwest Germany on 9 January 1901. The carbonaceous C-type asteroid (FX) has a rotation period of 12.9 hours. It was named after Megaera from Greek mythology. Orbit and classification ''Megaira'' is a non-family asteroid of the main belt's background population when applying the hierarchical clustering method to its proper orbital elements. The shrew – an unpleasant, ill-tempered woman characterised by scolding, nagging, and aggression – is a comedic, stock character in literature and folklore, both Western and Eastern. The theme is illustrated in Shakespeare's play '' The Taming of the Shrew''. As a reference to actual women, rather than the stock character, ''shrew'' is considered old-fashioned, and the synonym ''scold'' (as a noun) is archaic. The term ''shrew'' is still used to describe the stock character in fiction and folk storytelling. None of these terms are usually applied to males in Modern English. This stereotype or cliché was common in early- to mid-20th-century films, and retains some present-day currency, often shifted somewhat toward the virtues of the stock female character of the heroic virago. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Zagreus ( grc-gre, Ζαγρεύς) was sometimes identified with a god worshipped by the followers of Orphism, the "first Dionysus", a son of Zeus and Persephone, who was dismembered by the Titans and reborn. In the earliest mention of Zagreus, he is paired with Gaia and called the "highest" god, though perhaps only in reference to the gods of the underworld. Aeschylus, however, links Zagreus with Hades, possibly as Hades' son, or as Hades himself. In classical mythology, Cupid (Latin Cupīdō , meaning "passionate desire") is the god of desire, erotic love, attraction and affection. "Ye Gods" is the second segment of the fifth episode of the first season (1985–86) from the television series '' The Twilight Zone''. In this segment, a man's disinterest in pursuing love draws the wrath of Cupid and forces him into dealings with the gods of ancient mythology. Plot Todd Ettinger accidentally runs into a woman at the cash register at a diner. Cupid throws magical dust over them and they fall in love. However, Todd ignores his feelings and heads to work. The Twilight Zone (1985 TV Series)
''The Twilight Zone'' is an anthology television series which was constructed from September 27, 1985 to April 15, 1989. It is the first of three revivals of Rod Serling's acclaimed 1959–64 television series, and like the original it featured a variety of speculative fiction, commonly containing characters from a seemingly normal world stumbling into paranormal circumstances. Unlike the original, however, most episodes contained multiple self-contained stories instead of just one. The voice-over narrations were still present, but were not a regular feature as they were in the original series; some episodes had only an opening narration, some had only a closing narration, and some had no narration at all. The multi-segment format liberated the series from the usual time constraints of episodic television, allowing stories ranging in length from 8-minutes to 40-minute mini-movies.
