Megan Rae Sweeney (born February 17, 1987, in Portland, Maine) is an American luger who competed from 2007 to 2010. Career Her best List of Luge World Cup champions, Luge World Cup season finish was 15th in women's singles in 2007-08 Luge World Cup, 2007-08. Sweeney's best finish at the FIL World Luge Championships was 16th in women's singles at Oberhof, Germany, Oberhof in FIL World Luge Championships 2008, 2008. Oberhof, Germany
Oberhof is a town in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district of Thuringia, Germany. Located in the Thuringian Forest mountain range, it is a winter sports center and health resort. FIL World Luge Championships 2008
The FIL World Luge Championships 2008 took place January 21-27, 2008 at the bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track in Oberhof, Germany for the third time after having hosted the event in 1973 and 1985. The relay competition took the place of the team event that had been held at every world championship since 1989. This event had all of teams start at the same part of the track (located at the women's singles/ men's doubles start house), then run down to the finish and tap on a relay marker to exchange from one slider on a team to the next (men's doubles to women's singles to men's singles) with the fastest time winning. Event preparations In an effort to prepare for the championships, the track underwent a major renovation in 2006, costing €4 million. Ticket sales at the finish area for all three days were sold out. Emily Sweeney (luger)
Emily Carolyn Sweeney (born November 28, 1993) is an American luger. She is the sister of fellow luger Megan Sweeney. Luge career During the 2009 World Cup season, Sweeney became Junior World Luge Champion and took bronze medals at the Junior World Cup at Winterberg, Germany and a gold medal at Park City, Utah. In December 2015, during World Cup competition on their home track in Lake Placid, Sweeney and teammates Erin Hamlin and Summer Britcher swept the field. It marked the first time the U.S. women knocked out the dominant German team. On November 26, 2017, she won her first World Cup gold medal in the sprint race at Winterberg. Emily Sweeney was selected as a member of the 2018 USA Olympic Team.
