Megan Davies (musician)
The Applejacks were an English beat group of the 1960s. They were the first "Brumbeat" group (that is, from the West Midlands conurbation-Birmingham area) to reach the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, and were unusual for having a female bass guitarist, Megan Davies. History All of the Applejacks (except Jackson) were members of the same scout troop as children. Baggott, Cash and Freeman began playing together in a skiffle group named the Crestas in 1961, occasionally performing at a local youth club. Davies joined the group in 1961, Gould the following year. Lacking a vocalist, they were strictly an instrumental band until the addition of singer Al Jackson in 1963; they began playing rock and roll songs and secured a residency at Solihull Civic Hall. During that time, they changed their name to the Jaguars before finally becoming the Applejacks in July 1962. Les Reed (songwriter)
Leslie David Reed (24 July 1935 – 15 April 2019) was an English songwriter, arranger, musician and light-orchestra leader. His major songwriting partners were Gordon Mills, Barry Mason, and Geoff Stephens, although he wrote songs with many others such as Roger Greenaway, Roger Cook, Peter Callander, and Johnny Worth. Reed co-wrote around sixty charting songs, and is best known for " It's Not Unusual", " Delilah", " The Last Waltz", " Kiss Me Goodbye," " There's a Kind of Hush," and " Marching On Together". His songs gained a number of Gold discs and Ivor Novello Awards. AllMusic noted that "In the mid-1960s, it was unusual for a British singles chart not to list a Les Reed song". The Pretenders released a cover in 1981 which reached number seven on the UK Singles Chart. Peggy Lee's cover was used in the title sequence of the 2024 Amazon Prime Video series, The Edge of Sleep. Ray Davies's demo Ray Davies composed "I Go to Sleep" on . Working on the piano at his parents' home in Fortis Green, north London, he wrote the song while awaiting news about the birth of his and his wife's first child.
