Megan Armitage (born 12 August 1996) is an Irish racing cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's Continental Team . Early life From Offaly, Armitage was a marathon runner while studying law and French at University College Dublin, and started cycling seriously during the COVID-19 pandemic. Career 2023 She became the first Irish female to win a UCI-ranked stage race with her GC victory at the in March 2023. She was selected by to ride the 2023 Tour de France Femmes, however she had to pull-out after a crash shortly before the grand start that involved a concussion after a head-on collision with a bus. She rode for Team Ireland at the 2023 UCI World Championships in Glasgow in August 2023. Irish National Cycling Championships
The Irish National Cycling Championships are annual cycle sport, cycling races to decide the Irish National Cycling Championships, cycling champion for several disciplines, across several categories of rider. The men's road championship is usually held on a Sunday at the end of June; the women's race is held the previous day. The winning élite rider wears the national champion's jersey for all road races in the following 12 months. Unlike most countries, the jersey does not contain the national flag or stripes from the flag's colours; instead, the jersey has a wide green band superimposed with a shamrock, the national flower of Ireland. The men's under-23 champion is awarded to the first under-23 in the élite race. Team Time Trial
A team time trial (TTT) is a road bicycle race in which teams of cyclists race against the clock (see individual time trial for a more detailed description of ITT events). The winning team in a TTT is determined by the comparing the times of (usually) the fourth-finishing rider in each team (though the relevant finish position can be otherwise specified in advance by the race organisers). This means that each team will try to get their first four (at least) riders across the finish line in a tight group: it is actually a disadvantage for any rider to finish far in advance of the fourth rider, as by staying back a faster rider can help the fourth rider to get a quicker time.
