Meet (TV Series)
''Meet'' is an early Australian television series which aired on ABC during 1957. The series consisted of interviews in a 15-minute time-slot, with a single person interviewed in each episode. It aired live in Melbourne, with telerecordings (also known as kinescope recordings) made of the broadcasts so it could be shown in Sydney. In Melbourne it aired on Mondays. Following the end of the series, it was followed up with an interview series titled ''People''. Those who were interviewed in the series included Anona Winn, Hal Gye, Samuel Wadhams, Alan Marshall, Ian Clunies-Ross, Myra Roper, John Bechervaise, among others. A search of the National Archives of Australia website suggests that at least two of the episodes still exist despite the wiping of the era. Vance Palmer
Edward Vivian "Vance" Palmer (28 August 1885 – 15 July 1959) was an Australian novelist, dramatist, essayist and critic. Early life Vance Palmer was born in Bundaberg, Queensland, on 28 August 1885 and attended the Ipswich Grammar School. With no university in Queensland, he studied contemporary Australian writing at the intellectual hub in Brisbane at the time, the School of Arts, following the work of A. G. Stephens. Working in various jobs, he took a position as a tutor at Abbieglassie cattle station, west of Brisbane in the 'back of beyond'. He also worked as a manager: at that time there was a large Aboriginal population with whom he both worked and celebrated, attending their frequent corroborrees. John Béchervaise
John Mayston Béchervaise (11 May 1910 – 13 July 1998) was an Australian writer, photographer, artist, historian and explorer. He is especially notable for his work and achievements in Antarctica. Career Béchervaise was educated in Melbourne. He joined Geelong College in 1935 in order to establish a program of outdoor activities for the boys. During the years of the Second World War he studied art history at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, but returned to Geelong College after the war. In 1947 he led the first party to land Tasmania's Rodondo Island in Bass Strait, 10 km off the coast of Victoria. In January 1949 he led a mountaineering expedition of the Geelong College Exploration Society to climb the hitherto unclimbed 1224 m Federation Peak in Tasmania. ABC Television is the general name for the national television services of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Until an organisational restructure in 2017/2018, ABC Television was also the name of a division of the ABC. The name was also used to refer to the first and for many years the only national ABC channel, before it was renamed ABC1 and then again to ABC TV.
