Medzilaborce
Medzilaborce (, ''Midzhilabirtsyi''; , ''Mizhlabirtsi''; ) is a List of towns in Slovakia, town in northeastern Slovakia close to the border with Poland, located near the towns of Sanok and Bukowsko (in southeastern Małopolska). Its population is approximately 6,500. Characteristics It is an administrative and cultural centre of the Laborec Region. A train line connects it with the town of Humenné to the south and with Poland to the north. The private sector and service industries are developing quickly in the town at the moment. It is home to the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art, opened in 1991, which contains many artworks and effects of Andy Warhol, his brother Paul and nephew James Warhola. Warhol's mother, Julia Warhola, was born and lived with her husband in the village of Miková, Mikó (today Miková), to the west. Medzilaborce District
Medzilaborce District (''okres Medzilaborce'') is a Districts of Slovakia, district in the Prešov Region of northeastern Slovakia. Until 1918, the district was part of the Administrative divisions of the Kingdom of Hungary, county of Kingdom of Hungary of Zemplén County, Zemplín. It has a population of roughly 11,000 and as such is the least populated of Slovakia's 79 districts. Economy and infrastructure Mainly glass and machinery industry have the largest tradition in small town Medzilaborce. From 1970s it had been a branch of Jablonecke sklarne which had employ approximately 600 people in the glass industry. Since 1999 Glass LPS has been a follower of 45 years old tradition in glass industry in Medzilaborce and still manufacture crystal chandeliers, grind crystal trimmings and export them around the world. Andy Warhol Museum Of Modern Art
The Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Art () is a biographical museum in Medzilaborce, Slovakia, dedicated to the work and family origin of the American artist Andy Warhol. History and activities The museum was founded on September 1, 1991, as a joint initiative of John Warhola, brother of the late Andy Warhol, Dr. Michal Bycko, Fred Hughes and Vladimír Protivňák, as well as by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, in New York, and the Ministry of Culture of Slovakia. On September 9, 1991, the first 13 original works of Warhol were brought to the museum, accompanied by Jay Shriver, Warhol's assistant and a member of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. A large post office building from the Communist era was adapted to be the biographical museum. Districts Of Slovakia
The districts of Slovakia are administrative units known as in the Slovak language. It is a second-tier territorial administrative unit, below a Region () in standing, and superior to a municipality (). Each district contains at least several municipalities. The cities of Bratislava and Košice are the only cities in Slovakia divided into internal urban districts, with five in Bratislava, and four in Košice. These urban districts are then further divided into smaller boroughs (which serve a function analogous to municipalities in typical districts). All other districts are larger in size and also include rural areas, and rural as well as urban municipalities. Each of these more typical districts has an urban centre serving as the seat of the district, usually the largest town (or the only town) of a given district. Prešov Region
The Prešov Region (, ; ), also Priashiv Region (, ), is one of the eight Slovak administrative regions and consists of 13 districts (okresy) and 666 municipalities, 23 of which have town status. The region was established in 1996 and is the most populous of all the regions in Slovakia. Its administrative center is the city of Prešov. Geography It is located in the north-eastern Slovakia and has an area of 8,975 km2. The region has a predominantly mountainous landscape. Borov
Borov is a village in Slovakia. Location Borov is located 4 km north of the center of Medzilaborce within the Prešov Region, on the banks of the Laborc river. History The village was founded by emperor Ferdinand I in 1543. Vehicles registered in Slovakia were generally assigned to one of the districts (''okres'') and from 1997 until 2022, the license plate coding () generally consisted of seven characters and takes the form XX-NNNLL, where XX was a two letter code corresponding to the district, NNN was a three digit number and LL were two additional letters (assigned alphabetically). Laborec Highlands
The Laborec Highlands (in Slovak language, Slovak, ''Laborecká vrchovina'') is a mountain range in northeastern Slovakia, part of the Lower Beskids of the Outer Eastern Carpathians.
The range is composed of Carpathian flysch. Bordered in the north by the Poland, Polish national border and to the west by the Ondavská Highlands, its ridges typically reach a height of 500 to 700 metres. The highest point is ''Vysoký Grúň'', at 905 metres. The region is drained by the Laborec River and, in its western portion, by the Ondava.
