Medon is a city in Madison County, Tennessee. It is included in the Jackson, Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 178 at the 2010 census. Geography Medon is located on State Route 18 between Jackson and Bolivar, north of Chickasaw State Park and north-northwest of Deanburg, at . History By 1886, about three hundred people were living in the area of Medon, which was formed along the Illinois Central Railroad ten miles south of Jackson; a high school had been incorporated there in 1881 and the area was surrounded by a rich agricultural community. The school was incorporated into South Side High School in 1956. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 191 people, 78 households, and 60 families residing in the city. 4836 Medon is a large Jupiter trojan from the Greek camp, approximately in diameter. It was discovered on 2 February 1989, by American astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker at the Palomar Observatory in California. The dark asteroid has a rotation period of 9.82 hours and belongs to the 60 largest Jupiter trojans. It was named after the mythological Greek warrior Medon. Caroline Medon, real name ''Caroline Wilhelmine Richter'', (3 January 1802 – 6. June 1882Antonius Lux: ''Große Frauen der Weltgeschichte. Tausend Biographien in Wort und Bild''. , Munich 1963, p. 391.) was a German opera singer and stage actress who became known as a lover of Arthur Schopenhauer. Life Caroline Richter came to Berlin around 1819 as a chorister at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden. It was there that she met Arthur Schopenhauer, probably in 1820 or spring 1821, when he lectured in Berlin. The abrupt and fading relationship between the two lasted about ten years. The "eternal bachelor" Schopenhauer, however, mistrusted her possible motives, which together with worries about her health and jealousy of other lovers of the singer was the reason why an engagement or marriage never came about.
