Medlicott Dome
Medlicott Dome is a prominent granite dome in Yosemite high country. It is located on the southeast side of Tioga Road, between Mariolumne Dome and Dozier Dome, near Pywiack Dome, the Cathedral lakes, Drug Dome, East Cottage Dome, West Cottage Dome, North and South Whizz Domes, and Fairview Dome. It is popular with climbers, hikers and backpackers due to relative ease of access and ascent, as well as scenic views of Yosemite. Etymology The dome was named after Henry P. Medlicott. Pywiack Dome
Pywiack Dome is a prominent 600 foot granite dome in Yosemite National Park, located north-east of Tenaya Lake, west of Tuolumne Meadows and from the Tioga Road. It is quite near Harlequin Dome, and North and South Whizz Domes are north. Granite Domes Of Yosemite National Park
Granite () is a coarse-grained (phaneritic) intrusive igneous rock composed mostly of quartz, alkali feldspar, and plagioclase. It forms from magma with a high content of silica and alkali metal oxides that slowly cools and solidifies underground. It is common in the continental crust of Earth, where it is found in igneous intrusions. These range in size from dikes only a few centimeters across to batholiths exposed over hundreds of square kilometers. Quadrangle (geography)
A "quadrangle" is a topographic map produced by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) covering the United States. The maps are usually named after local physiographic features. The shorthand "quad" is also used, especially with the name of the map; for example, "the Ranger Creek, Texas quad". From approximately 1947-1992, the USGS produced the 7.5 minute series, with each map covering an area one-quarter of the older 15-minute quad series, which it replaced. Lundy, California
Lundy (formerly Mill Creek) is a defunct community in Mono County, California, United States, located on Mill Creek in Lundy Canyon near the west end of Lundy Lake. It is situated at an elevation of 7858 feet (2395 m). It was named after O.J. Lundy who operated a sawmill near Lundy Lake. Dozier Dome is a granite dome, in the Tuolumne Meadows region of Yosemite National Park. It is named after Jeff Dozier.
