Mecúfi District
Mecúfi District is a Districts of Mozambique, district of Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique. It is bordered in the north by the district capital of Pemba, Mozambique, Pemba and the Metuge District, to the west by the Ancuabe District, to the south by the Chiúre District, and to the east by the Indian Ocean. It spans 1,192 km2 with 61,531 inhabitants. The dominant economic activity of the district lies in agriculture, however tourism is also an important activity due to the beaches in the area. History The first documented settlement in the territory that is now the Mecúfi District belonged to the town of Lúrio, which was created in 1904 by the Niassa Company. During World War I, the region was under attach by German patrols in January 1918 nearing the capital of the province in Pemba, Mozambique, Pemba, then called Porto Amélia. Insurgency In Cabo Delgado
The insurgency in Cabo Delgado is an ongoing Islamism, Islamist insurgency in Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, mainly fought between militant Islamism, Islamists and Jihadism, jihadists attempting to establish an Islamic state in the region, and Mozambican security forces. Civilians have been the main targets of Islamic terrorism, terrorist attacks by Islamist militants. The main insurgent faction is Ansar al-Sunna (Mozambique), Ansar al-Sunna, a native extremist faction with tenuous international connections. From mid-2018, the Islamic State's Islamic State – Central Africa Province, Central Africa Province has allegedly become active in northern Mozambique as well, and claimed its first attack against Mozambican security forces in June 2019. Niassa Company
The Niassa Company or Nyassa Chartered Company () was a royal company in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique, then known as Portuguese East Africa, that had the concession of the lands that include the present provinces of Cabo Delgado and Niassa between 1891 and 1929. Ancuabe District
Ancuabe District is a district of Cabo Delgado Province in northern Mozambique. It covers 4,984 km2 with 199,457 inhabitants in 2015. Its seat is the town of Ancuabe. Geography It borders to the north with the district of Meluco, west with the district of Montepuez, south of the district of Chiúre and that the districts of Pemba-Metuge and Quissanga. Demographics According to the 1997 census, the district had 87,243 inhabitants.
