Meat (EP)
''Meat'' is the second extended play by British rock band Idles. The extended play was released on 30 October 2015. The three-year gap between the EP and the previous release ''Welcome'' is, to date, the longest gap between two releases by the band. The four track EP has been described as a departure of the band's original post-punk sound and an embracement of a more pub rock and punk-oriented sound. The orchestration of the band's first two albums, ''Brutalism'' and ''Joy as an Act of Resistance'' have been linked to the sound of ''Meat''. Background In September 2014, the second track off the EP, "The Idles Chant", was premiered on BBC's ''Introducing the West'' session series. The track has been described as a departure from the band's original post-punk roots and contains a more pub rock and punk rock tone. The first single off the EP, Queens was released a year prior to the EP release. The music video features a naked man wearing a wrestling mask while eating a bowl of ha ...

Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of music that emerged in late 1977 in the wake of punk rock. Post-punk musicians departed from punk's fundamental elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a broader, more experimental approach that encompassed a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and do it yourself ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the music production, production techniques of dub music, dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, Film, cinema and modernist literature, literature. These communities produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines. Pub Rock (United Kingdom)
Pub rock is a subgenre of rock music that emerged in the early to mid-1970s in the United Kingdom. A back-to-basics movement, which incorporated roots rock, pub rock was a reaction against the expensively-recorded and produced progressive rock and flashy glam rock scenes at the time. Although short-lived, pub rock was played live in small traditional venues like pubs and clubs. Since major labels showed no interest in pub rock groups, pub bands sought out independent record labels such as Stiff Records. Indie labels used relatively inexpensive recording processes, so they had a much lower break-even point for a record than a major label. With pub rock's emphasis on small venues, simple, fairly inexpensive recordings and indie record labels, it was the catalyst for the development of the British punk rock scene. Despite these shared elements, though, there was a difference between the genres: while pub rock harked back to early rock and roll and Rhythm and blues, R&B, punk was ic ...

Welcome (Idles EP)
''Welcome'' is the first extended play by British rock band Idles. The extended play was released originally as a demo on 31 December 2011 before being released for the public on 4 August 2012 through independent label, Fear Of Fiction. The extended play has been described as drastically different from their current work, as the sound of this EP has been compared to having a more cleaner, post-punk sound more akin to the likes of Interpol, Editors, and Radio 4. Background At the time of recording this album, the band was just a music duo, composed of singer Joe Talbot and bassist Adam Devonshire, who met while at College in Exeter, eventually deciding to start a band. Idles have their roots in the Bat-Cave Night Club in Bristol. According to Talbot, "It took us a long time to get productive because we didn’t know what the fuck we were doing at all, we were fucking terrible for a long time." The band's first release was the ''Welcome'' EP in 2012. By 2014 the band comprised ...
