Meantime (album)
''Meantime'' is the second studio album and major label debut by American alternative metal band Helmet. It was released on June 23, 1992, through Interscope Records. Despite initially only achieving moderate commercial success, peaking at number 68 on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart upon release in 1992, the album influenced multiple bands in its wake, and has been well received by music critics and is considered an influential album of the metal genre. ''Meantime'' has continued to sell consistently well in the years since its release, and in 1994 was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The album has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. The lead single from ''Meantime'', " Unsung", was a charting success on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart, and remains Helmet's best-known song. Helmet (band)
Helmet is an American alternative metal band from New York City formed in 1989 by vocalist and lead guitarist Page Hamilton. Helmet has had numerous lineup changes with Hamilton as the only constant member. Since 2010, the band has consisted of Hamilton, drummer Kyle Stevenson, guitarist Dan Beeman and bassist Dave Case. Helmet has released nine studio albums and two compilation albums. After releasing their debut album, ''Strap It On'' (1990), on Amphetamine Reptile Records, Amphetamine Reptile, Helmet signed to Interscope Records and released three albums for the label, including the highly successful ''Meantime (album), Meantime'' (1992). Their next two albums ― ''Betty (Helmet album), Betty'' (1994) and ''Aftertaste (album), Aftertaste'' (1997) ― were also successful, but did not match the critical or popular acclaim of ''Meantime''. ''120 Minutes'' is a television program in the United States dedicated to the Alternative rock, alternative music genre, that originally aired on MTV from 1986 to 2000, and then aired on MTV's associate channel MTV2 from 2001 to 2003. Headbangers Ball
''Headbangers Ball'' is a music television program that consists of heavy metal music videos airing on MTV and its global affiliates. The show began on MTV on April 18, 1987, playing heavy metal music videos from both well-known and more obscure artists. The show offered (and became famous because of) a stark contrast to Top 40 music videos shown during the day. However, with the mainstream rise of alternative rock, grunge, pop punk and rap music in the 1990s, the relevance of ''Headbangers Ball'' came into question, and the show was ultimately canceled in 1995. Over eight years later, as new genres of heavy metal were gaining a commercial foothold and fan interest became unavoidable, the program was reintroduced on MTV2. Page Nye Hamilton (born May 18, 1960) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and record producer who founded the American heavy metal band Helmet in 1989. In the 1990s, Helmet and Hamilton were forerunners of alternative metal with the albums '' Meantime'' (1992) and '' Betty'' (1994) and are considered one of the most influential metal bands of all time. Although he is mainly known for his work in heavy metal and post-hardcore music, Hamilton also earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and later earned a Master's degree in jazz guitar from the Manhattan School of Music.
