Meanguera
Meanguera del Golfo is a municipality in the La Unión Department of El Salvador. It is located from La Unión municipality and from San Salvador on the island of Meanguera in the Gulf of Fonseca. It has an area of with a population of 2,398 inhabitants (2007). Three countries - Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua - have a coastline along the gulf, and all three have been involved in a lengthy dispute over the rights to the gulf and the islands located there within. La Unión Department
La Unión () is the easternmost department of El Salvador. Its capital is La Unión. It covers a total of and has a population of 263,200. The department was created on June 22, 1865, and the city of La Unión was made its capital. The Conchagua Temple was built in 1693 and it is one of tourist attractions of the department, as well as containing archeological ruins in Intipucá and Meanguera. The Gulf of Fonseca (; ), a part of the Pacific Ocean, is a gulf in Central America, bordering El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The waters of the gulf are shared among all three countries. La Unión () is a Municipalities of El Salvador, municipality in La Unión Department of El Salvador. It is the capital city of the department of La Unión. It is the largest city in the department with a population of approximately 34,000 inhabitants. Previously known as Puerto San Carlos, it was renamed La Unión on July 13, 1824, after El Salvador gained independence from Spain and formed the Federal Republic of Central America, United Provinces of Central America. El Tigre is an island located in the Gulf of Fonseca, a body of water on the Pacific coast of Central America. The island is a conical basaltic stratovolcano and the southernmost volcano in Honduras.
