Me And My Gal
''Me and My Gal'' is a 1932 American pre-Code romantic crime comedy-drama film starring Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett, directed by Raoul Walsh and released by the Fox Film Corporation. The film tells the story of jaunty young policeman Danny Dolan (Tracy), who falls in love with waterfront cafe waitress Helen Riley (Bennett). It is admired as a pre-Code classic today. Raoul Walsh (born Albert Edward Walsh; March 11, 1887December 31, 1980) was an American film director, actor, founding member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and the brother of silent cinema actor George Walsh. Billy Bevan
Billy Bevan (born William Bevan Harris; 29 September 1887 – 26 November 1957) was an Australian-born vaudevillian who became an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 American films from 1916 to 1952. He died just before new audiences discovered him in Robert Youngson's silent-comedy compilations. The Youngson films mispronounce his name as "Be-VAN"; Bevan himself offered the proper pronunciation in a ''Voice of Hollywood'' reel in 1930: "Bevan" rhyming with "seven". Francis Charles Moran (18 March 1887 – 14 December 1967) was an American boxer and film actor who fought twice for the Heavyweight Championship of the World, and appeared in over 135 movies in a 25-year film career. Sports career Moran was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Martin Moran and Mary Moran née McNally, immigrants from County Mayo, Ireland. He studied dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh, where he also played football. Jesse De Vorska (July 13, 1898 – December 27, 1999) was a Russian-born American film actor.Neibaur p. 38 De Vorska was born in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1898. He lived on the streets after his parents were killed in pogroms directed at Jewish people. After he began working as a baker's helper, he lived in the bakery. In 1914 a relative who lived in Syracuse, New York, provided funds for him to move there. After being employed as a delivery boy for a Syracuse pharmacy, he found work in a theater there. That job led to an opportunity in vaudeville, and later he began acting in silent films. A heavy Yiddish accent kept him from performing in talking films. De Vorska was in the Navy in World War I and World War II. He died on December 27, 1999, in Veterans Hospital in Westwood, California, aged 101. Emmett Corrigan (born Antoine Zilles; June 5, 1867 – October 29, 1932) was a Dutch-born American stage and screen actor. Various sources give his birth year as 1867, 1868 and 1871.
