Md Nuruzzaman
Md. Nuruzzaman is a justice in the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. Early life Md. Nuruzzaman was born on 1 July 1956. Career Md. Nuruzzaman was in the Mukti Bahini and fought in the Bangladesh Liberation war in 1971. Md. Nuruzzaman started working as a lawyer on 4 September 1983. In 1987, Md. Nuruzzaman became an advocate in the Bangladesh High Court Division of Supreme Court of Bangladesh. On 30 June 2009, Md. Nuruzzaman was appointed an Additional Judge of the High Court Division of Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He became a full judge of the High Court Division of Supreme Court of Bangladesh on 6 June 2011. On 17 September 2016, a bench led by Md. Nuruzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed rejected a petition by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia challenging the proceedings of Barapukuria coal scam case. Md. The High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh ( bn, হাইকোর্ট ডিভিশন) popularly known as the 'High Court' is one of the two divisions of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, the other division being the Appellate Division. The Mukti Bahini ( bn, মুক্তিবাহিনী, translates as 'freedom fighters', or liberation army), also known as the Bangladesh Forces, was the guerrilla resistance movement consisting of the Bangladeshi military, paramilitary and civilians during the Bangladesh Liberation War, War of Liberation that transformed East Pakistan into Bangladesh in 1971. They were initially called the Mukti Fauj. On 7 March 1971 Sheikh Mujibur Rahman issued a call to the people of East Pakistan to prepare themselves for an all-out struggle. Barapukuria Coal Scam
Barapukuria coal scam is a sensational corruption scandal of Bangladesh concerning the misappropriation of around 142 hundred thousand tons of coal, worth over BDT 227 billion by officials of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) from the coal mine of Barapukuria, Dinajpur District, in northern Bangladesh. The scandal was revealed in July 2018 when a board member of Bangladesh Power Development Board went to visit the coal mine and found no fresh coal whereas according to the document there should have been around 142 hundred thousand tons of coal reserved. The matter came in light when a Bangladeshi English-language daily reported the incident. Petrobangla, the parent organization of the BCMCL, promptly suspended a few officials in this connection while the Anti-Corruption Commission started an inquiry to trace the corruption. Bangladesh Bar Council is a statutory autonomous body in Bangladesh, established under the Legal Practitioners and the Bar Council Order. It is the licensing and regulatory body for lawyers in Bangladesh. The bar council can establish tribunals to investigate and prosecute complaints against lawyers.
