Kurigram-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh. Since 6 August 2024 the constituency is vacant. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Ulipur Upazila. History The constituency was created in 1984 from the Rangpur-16 constituency when the former Rangpur District was split into five districts: Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram, and Gaibandha. Ahead of 2008 general election, the Election Commission redrew constituency boundaries to reflect population changes revealed by the 2001 Bangladesh census. The 2008 redistricting altered the boundaries of the constituency. Mozammel Hossain Lalu
Mozammel Hossain Lalu (; 1942 – 1 September 2014) was a Bangladeshi politician. He was elected a Jatiya Sangsad member from Kurigram-3 (Ulipur-Chilmari-Rajarhat) constituency winning the September 1996 by-election. Early life and family Lalu was born in the early 1940s to a Bengali Muslim family with roots in Dinhata in present-day India. His parents were Mokbul Hossain and Majida Khatun. Mokbul was a lawyer and served as a minister of the erstwhile Maharaja of Cooch Behar. Lalu had eight siblings including the former President of Bangladesh Hussain Muhammad Ershad, politician GM Quader and Merina Rahman. Lalu's son, Hossain Mokbul Shahriar, is a former Jatiya Sangsad member from Rangpur-1. Career Lalu served as the assistant general manager of the state-run Janata Bank. AKM Maidul Islam
AKM Maidul Islam (born 1940 or 1943; died 2018) was a Bangladeshi politician from Ulipur who served six terms in the Bangladesh Parliament between 1979 and 2018. First elected as a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) member, he later defected to the Jatiya Party (JP), briefly returned to the BNP, and finally rejoined the JP. Islam held ministerial positions under presidents Ziaur Rahman, Abdus Sattar, and Hussain Muhammad Ershad at various times between 1979 and 1990. The Jatiya Party (, ; JaPa or JP(E)) is a political party of Bangladesh. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammed Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of opposition. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women.
