McMasterville
McMasterville is a city in southwestern Quebec, Canada on the Richelieu River in La Vallée-du-Richelieu Regional County Municipality. The population as of the 2021 Canadian Census was 5,936. It is within the Administrative Region of Montérégie. History The town was founded in 1917 to house workers of the Canadian Explosives Limited which operated until 1998. The town is named after the first chairman of that company, William McMaster. Geography McMasterville is located along the Richelieu river, on the shore facing Mont St-Hilaire and Otterburn Park. La Vallée-du-Richelieu (, ''The Valley of the Richelieu'') is a regional county municipality in the Montérégie region in southwestern Quebec, Canada. Its seat is McMasterville. It surrounds the Richelieu River as the river flows north from Lake Champlain in the United States to the Saint Lawrence River northeast of Montreal at Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. Dramatically different from the mountainous terrain to the south, the river valley is a vast plain that has been developed with extensive farmlands. Montérégie () is an administrative region in the southwest part of Quebec. Mont-Saint-Hilaire (also designated line 13) is a commuter rail service in Greater Montreal, Quebec. It is operated by Exo (public transit), Exo, the operator of public transport services across this region. The Mont-Saint-Hilaire line was operated by the Grand Trunk Railway (GTR) from 1859 to 1923, and by Canadian National Railway (CN) from 1923 to 1988, following the GTR's merger into CN. Richelieu River
The Richelieu River () is a river of Quebec, Canada, and a major right-bank tributary of the St. Lawrence River. It rises at Lake Champlain, from which it flows northward through Quebec and empties into the St. Lawrence. William McMaster (businessman)
William McMaster (10 June 1851 – 5 May 1930) was a Canadian businessman who had two successful careers. McMaster was born in Montreal on June 10, 1851 and married Lucy A. Greene from Vergennes, Vermont on September 18, 1877. He died in Montreal on May 5, 1930 at the age of 78. The municipality of McMasterville in southwestern Quebec was named after him. Career McMaster served 35 years at the Montreal Rolling Mills and retired as managing director in 1910 at the time of the formation of the Steel Company of Canada (later "Stelco"). The Steel Company was created from the amalgamation of the Montreal Rolling Mills; the Hamilton Steel and Iron Company; the Canada Screw Co.; the Canada Bolt and Nut Co. and the Dominion Wire Manufacturing Co. The South Shore Protestant Regional School Board (SSPRSB) was a Protestant Christian school district in Greater Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It served the South Shore region and it was headquartered in St. Lambert. The district operated elementary and secondary schools that served students from the St. Lawrence School Board and the South Centre School Board areas. Beloeil—Chambly (officially Belœil—Chambly) is a federal electoral district (riding) in Quebec, Canada. It encompasses a portion of Montérégie formerly included in the riding of Chambly—Borduas. Beloeil—Chambly was created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution.
