McKinlay is an outback town and Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in McKinlay Shire, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of McKinlay had a population of 162 people. Geography McKinlay is in the Gulf Country in the remote north-west of Queensland, north west of the state capital Brisbane and south east of the regional centre of Mount Isa. The town is located slightly north of the centre of the locality. The Landsborough Highway enters the locality from the east (Kynuna), passes through the town along Kirby Street, and exits to the north-west (Kuridala, Queensland, Kuridala / Cloncurry, Queensland, Cloncurry). The McKinlay River (Queensland), McKinlay River enters the locality from the south-west (Selwyn, Queensland, Selwyn), flows immediately north-west of the town, exiting the locality to the north (Julia Creek, Queensland, Julia Creek) where it becomes a tributary of the Gilliat River, Gilliart River, ultimately becoming a tributary of the Flinders River ...

Billy McKinlay
William James Alexander McKinlay (born 22 April 1969) is a Scottish football manager and former professional footballer who is currently assistant manager of Everton. As a player, he was a midfielder who notably played in the Premier League for Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City, Bradford City and Fulham. He also played in the Scottish Premiership for Dundee United, the Football League for Preston North End and the Scottish Football League for Clydebank. McKinlay appeared 29 times for Scotland and played at Euro 1996 and the 1998 World Cup. As a coach, he has worked for Fulham, the Northern Ireland national team and Watford. He was appointed Watford head coach in September 2014 but left the post after eight days. After a spell as assistant head coach with Real Sociedad in Spain, he joined Norwegian club Stabæk in November 2015, before being sacked in July 2016. Jake McKinlay
Jake Tyrone McKinlay (6 April 2001 – 20 December 2021) was a New Zealand basketball player. He played three seasons in the New Zealand National Basketball League (NZNBL) for the Manawatu Jets and one season of college basketball in the United States for Mineral Area College. He helped New Zealand win bronze at the FIBA Under-16 Asian Championship in 2018. Following his death in 2021, the Manawatu Jets retired McKinlay's number 12 jersey. Early life and junior career McKinlay's hometown was the Palmerston North suburb of Awapuni. He started playing basketball in his second year of intermediate after a teacher at Monrad Intermediate School convinced him to play. He attended Palmerston North Boys' High School, where he captained the school's premier basketball squad in 2018 while being named in the New Zealand secondary schools' tournament team. Tosh McKinlay
Thomas Valley "Tosh" McKinlay (born 3 December 1964) is a Scottish former footballer. A fullback or wingback, he spent most of his career in Scotland playing for Dundee, Heart of Midlothian, Celtic and Kilmarnock. He also played for English club Stoke City and Swiss side Grasshoppers. He won 22 international caps for Scotland. McKinlay works for Celtic as a scout. Club career McKinlay was an outstanding schoolboy footballer in Glasgow, winning trophies with St Peter's Boys Primary in Partick and St Thomas Aquinas, Jordanhill; he played left wing and was a regular goalscorer with a strong shot on his left foot, only moving to fullback when he turned professional – perhaps surprisingly, he did not score many goals thereafter.
