McKenzie Cantrell
McKenzie Cantrell (born July 17, 1987) is an American politician who previously served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from the 38th district from January 2017 to January 2023. She was first elected in 2016, defeating Republican incumbent Denver Butler. In 2022 she retired to unsuccessfully run for the Kentucky Court of Appeals. Denver Earl "Denny" Butler Jr. (born 1970) is an American politician and a former Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives. Butler represented District 38 from January 2013 to January 2017. Education Butler attended Jefferson Community College (now Jefferson Community and Technical College), and earned his BA and BS in justice administration from the University of Louisville. His father, Denver Butler Sr. served in the House of Representatives for District 38 from 1989 to 2007. Kentucky Court Of Appeals
The Kentucky Court of Appeals is the lower of Kentucky's two appellate courts, under the Kentucky Supreme Court. Prior to a 1975 amendment to the Kentucky Constitution the Kentucky Court of Appeals was the only appellate court in Kentucky. The Court of Appeals has 14 members. Two members are elected from each of seven districts and serve eight-year terms of office. The Kentucky Court of Appeals judges are elected from districts that mirror the seven districts which elect the seven justices of the Supreme Court of Kentucky. The 14 judges select one colleague to serve as chief judge for a four-year term. The chief judge assigns judges and cases to panels. The current chief judge is Denise G. Clayton. The court usually sits in three judge panels. Membership of the panels rotate so that all judges sit on at least one panel with each of their colleagues in any given year.
