McIntyre-Takhini
McIntyre-Takhini is a former electoral district of the Legislative Assembly which existed from 1992-2009. It was dissolved in 2009 into the ridings Takhini-Kopper King and Mountainview. It contained the Whitehorse subdivisions of Takhini, Valleyview, and McIntyre, as well as the Kopper King, Takhini, and Northland mobile home parks. It is the former riding of Yukon's 5th Premier, Piers McDonald. Piers McDonald
Piers McDonald, OC (born August 4, 1955) is a Yukon politician and businessman. Born in Kingston, Ontario, McDonald, originally a miner by profession, is a long-time MLA, Cabinet minister, and the fifth premier of Yukon. He was leader of the Yukon New Democratic Party from 1995 to 2000. Post-politics, McDonald became a businessman and community developer. He is a founding member, and currently chair, of Northern Vision Development, which has focused on residential and property revitalization, commercial real estate, and hospitality services in Yukon. He was also the chancellor of Yukon University from 2016 to 2020. John Edzerza
John Edzerza (August 14, 1948 – November 25, 2011) was a Canadian politician. He represented the electoral district of McIntyre-Takhini in the Yukon Legislative Assembly. Political career Born in British Columbia in 1948, he first entered politics in 2002 as a Yukon Party MLA, and served as Minister of Justice and Minister of Education in Dennis Fentie's cabinet. After disagreeing with a number of government decisions in early 2006, he resigned from the Yukon Party on August 2, 2006, to sit as an independent MLA, and recontested his seat in that fall's territorial election as a candidate of the Yukon New Democratic Party. He was re-elected, and served in the NDP caucus under Todd Hardy until January 2009, when he resigned from the NDP to sit again as an independent. He rejoined the Yukon Party on October 22, 2009, and served as Minister of the Environment until retiring in 2011. Edzerza died of leukemia on November 25, 2011. Mountainview is an electoral district (Canada), electoral district which returns a member (known as an MLA) to the Yukon Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly of Yukon in Canada. It was created in 2009 out of parts of the former districts of McIntyre-Takhini and Copperbelt (electoral district), Copperbelt. It contains the Whitehorse, Yukon, Whitehorse subdivisions of Granger, Valleyview, McIntyre, and Hillcrest. It is the former riding of the Yukon's 8th Premier of Yukon, Premier, Darrell Pasloski. The 1996 Yukon general election was held on September 30, 1996 to elect the seventeen members of the 29th Yukon Legislative Assembly in Yukon Territory, Canada. The governing Yukon Party, a conservative party, was defeated by the social democratic New Democratic Party (NDP). The NDP formed a new majority government of the territory with 11 seats.
