Elizabeth Anne McInnes (born 30 March 1959) is a British Labour Party politician and biochemist who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Heywood and Middleton from 2014 to 2019. Early life and career Elizabeth Anne McInnes was born on 30 March 1959 in Oldham, Lancashire. She was the fifth of the eight children to Margaret Elizabeth and George Frederick McInnes. Her father was a sheet metal worker who died when she was 14 years-old, so her mother brought-up the family single-handedly. Margaret took on various jobs including running public houses. McInnes was educated at Hathershaw Comprehensive School, Oldham. She studied biochemistry at St Anne's College, University of Oxford and completed a master's degree at the University of Surrey. From 1981, she worked in healthcare for the NHS in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Oldham. John McInnes (23 April 1878 – 30 September 1950) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1918 to 1950, representing the electorates of West Torrens (1918–1938) and Hindmarsh (1938–1950). He was a member of the Labor Party throughout his career, apart from 1931 to 1934, when he represented the splinter Parliamentary Labor Party. He served as Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1924 to 1926. McInnes was born in Scotland and moved to South Australia as a child. He was the inaugural secretary of the South Australian Government General Workers' Association from 1905 to 1911. James McInnes (19 May 1901 – 14 April 1974) was a Scottish politician. Born in Newry, McInnes was educated at Glasgow Secondary School, and then became a railway clerk. He joined the Labour Party, serving on Glasgow Town Council from 1933 until 1950, and was leader of the Labour group on the council for his final year. In 1938, he chaired the Scottish Council of the Labour Party. McInnes stood unsuccessfully in Glasgow Pollok at the 1935 United Kingdom general election, and then in Glasgow Central at the 1945 United Kingdom general election. James Campbell McInnes (23 January 1874 – 8 February 1945) was a well-known English baritone singer and teacher at the turn of the 20th century, ex-husband of author Angela Thirkell and father of writer Colin MacInnes. Early life He was born to parents Archibald McInnes and Mary Gallagher on 23 January 1874, in Ramsbottom, Lancashire. Career James Campbell McInnes, a baritone, studied at the Royal College of Music (R.C.M.) under a succession of great teachers including George Henschel, Sir Charles Santley, William Shakespeare, Jacques Bouhy, and Jean de Reszke. He was a composer of songs and, in the early days of the folk-song movement, he collected songs in Scotland.
