Phyllis Glory McDonagh (7 January 1900 – 17 October 1978) was an Australian film producer, production designer and journalist, who often worked in collaboration with her sisters Paulette and Isabella. Early life McDongah was born on Macquaire Street in Sydney, Australia, on 7 January 1900 and was the second child of seven born to John Michael McDonagh, and Annie Jane (Anita) McDonagh (née Amora). She attended school at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Elizabeth Bay, as a boarder alongside her two sisters Isabella and Paulette. Career Film Phyllis McDonagh began her career in film alongside her two sisters Isabella and Paulette with the film '' Those Who Love'' in 1926. Phyllis worked as the production manager, and collaborated closely with her younger sister Paulette who would direct and write their majority of their films. Isabella Mercia McDonagh (3 January 1899 – 5 March 1982), also known as Marie Lorraine, was an Australian actress who often worked in collaboration with her sisters Paulette and Phyllis. Isabella, alongside her two sisters made history by owning and running a film production company, therefore becoming the first Australian women to do so. She visited Hollywood in 1933 but did not elect to stay on and make a career there. Early life Isabella Mercia McDonagh was born 3 January 1899 at Macquaire Street in Sydney, Australia, becoming one of seven children born to John McDonagh, a medical practitioner, and Annie Jane (née Amora). Since her father was a surgeon to a theatrical company, she was familiar with the entertainment industry and as a young girl, showed an interest in acting. Paulette McDonagh
Paulette de Vere McDonagh (11 June 1901 – 30 August 1978), was an Australian film director, who often worked in collaboration with her sisters Phyllis and Isabella. In 1933 it was claimed she was one of only five female film directors in the world. At one stage they had offers to go to Hollywood. "Fox Films offered to send us," said Phyllis McDonagh, "But we were sensible girls. We sat down and talked and decided we would end up very small fish in a big pond. At home we had work and a reputation." Life and career Paulette McDangh was born on 11 June 1901 in Sydney and one of seven children born to Annie Jane (Anita) Amora and John Michael McDonagh. The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. The NFSA collection first started as the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (within the then Commonwealth National Library) in 1935, becoming an independent cultural organisation in 1984. ''Those Who Love'' is a 1926 silent film, produced in Australia, about the son of a knight who falls in love with a dancer. Only part of the film survives today and it is held by the National Film and Sound Archive. Plot Barry Manton, William Carter, the son of Sir James, falls in love with a dancer, Bebe Doree but his father disapproves and bribes Bebe to disappear. Hurt, Barry leaves home and becomes a labourer on the docks. He meets poor but honest Lola Quayle in a cabaret and offers her a place to live after she resists the advances of a pub owner. They stay in separate rooms but fall in love during a storm and he later marries her. Barry's father wants him to return home and sends a solicitor over to approach him.
