McComb is a city in Pike County, Mississippi, United States. The city is approximately south of Jackson. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 12,790. It is the principal city of the McComb, Mississippi Micropolitan Statistical Area. History 19th century McComb was founded in 1872 after Henry Simpson McComb of the New Orleans, Jackson and Great Northern Railroad, a predecessor of the Illinois Central Railroad (now part of the Canadian National Railway), decided to move the railroad's maintenance shops away from New Orleans, Louisiana, to avoid the attractions of that city's bars. The railroad purchased land in Pike County. Three nearby communities, Elizabethtown, Burglund, and Harveytown, agreed to consolidate to form this town. McComb, Ohio
McComb is a village in Hancock County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,558 at the time of the 2020 census. The village holds one school district, McComb Local School District. History McComb, originally known as Pleasantville, was laid out in 1847. The village was renamed McComb in 1858. Despite its spelling, McComb is named for Alexander Macomb, who was the second man to serve as Commanding General of the United States Army. The reason for the spelling, "McComb" instead of "Macomb," is that the village was named by a Scotsman who fought under Macomb at the Battle of Plattsburg, and he used the Scottish manner of pronunciation and spelling. William Bensinger and John Reed Porter among the first soldiers receive the Medal of Honor in American history for their role in the Great Locomotive Chase, are buried in McComb. Alexander Macomb (; April 3, 1782 – June 25, 1841) was an American military officer who was the Commanding General of the United States Army from 1828 until his death in 1841. Macomb was the field commander at the Battle of Plattsburgh during the War of 1812 and, after the stunning victory, was lauded with praise and styled "The Hero of Plattsburgh" by some of the American press. McComb (Amtrak Station)
McComb station is a train station in McComb, Mississippi, United States, serving Amtrak's ''City of New Orleans (train), City of New Orleans'' passenger train. This is a flag stop and the trains only stop if passengers have tickets to and from the station. On May 30, 2021, the station building fell victim to arson and was believed to be a total loss. However, after the structure was inspected by an architectural firm, as well as two construction contractors experienced in rehabilitating burned structures, it was determined in November, 2021, that most of the depot's walls could be saved in the central area and southern ends of the building. On January 3, 2022, Pike Construction of Mississippi began the rebuilding process, which is expected to take 9–12 months to complete.
