Maël De Calan
Maël de La Lande de Calan (; born 30 April 1980) is a French politician who has served as President of the Departmental Council of Finistère since 2021. He has been a departmental councillor for the canton of Saint-Pol-de-Léon since 2015, as well as a municipal councillor of Roscoff since 2014. De Calan ran in the 2017 The Republicans leadership election, placing third. Early life and career De Calan was born in Marseille in 1980, and joined the Rally for the Republic at the age of 18. While studying at Sciences Po in 2002, he was the last leader of its Rally for the Republic branch, and the first leader of its Union for a Popular Movement branch. He later studied at HEC Paris, where he served as leader of its Union for a Popular Movement branch. Alain Marie Juppé (; born 15 August 1945) is a French politician. A member of The Republicans, he was Prime Minister of France from 1995 to 1997 under President Jacques Chirac, during which period he faced major strikes that paralysed the country and became very unpopular. He left office after the victory of the left in the snap 1997 legislative elections. He had previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995, and as Minister of the Budget and Spokesman for the Government from 1986 to 1988. The Republicans held a presidential primary election, officially called the open primary of the right and centre (), to select a candidate for the 2017 presidential election. It took place on 20 November 2016, with a runoff on 27 November since no candidate obtained at least 50% of the vote in the first round. It was the first time an open primary had been held for The Republicans or its predecessor parties.
