The Mayor of Antananarivo is the Mayor of the capital city, capital and largest city in Madagascar, Antananarivo. The post of mayor of Antananarivo is considered to be one of the most prominent and influential offices in Madagascar. It is also considered one of the "politically defining posts" in the country, from which politicians often emerge into higher offices, such as the President of Madagascar, Malagasy Presidency. The former President of Madagascar, Marc Ravalomanana, was mayor of the city when he rose to power in 2002. Andry Rajoelina was elected as Mayor in December 2007 and became Ravalomanana's main opponent, leading a 2009 Malagasy protests, general strike in Antananarivo in January 2009. Neny Lalao Rakotonirainy Ravalomanana (born 1953) is a Malagasy businesswoman and politician who served as the First Lady of Madagascar from 2002 to 2009, when her husband, Marc Ravalomanana, was president. Ravalomanana was born Lalao Harivelo Rakotonirainy in Antananarivo, French Madagascar. She married Marc Ravalomanana in 1974 at a ceremony held in Imerikasinina. The couple have four children: Josoa, Tojo, Sarah, and Maika. In April 2013, Lalao Ravalomanana put herself forward to run in the 2013 presidential election, an election in which her husband was barred from standing. However, Ravalomanana, who had recently returned from exile in South Africa where she lived with her husband, was barred from running for not having lived in Madagascar for 6 months before the poll. Young Malagasies Determined (, TGV), sometimes translated as Determined Malagasy Youth or Ready Young Malagasies, is a political movement and party in Madagascar. It is headed by the current President, Andry Rajoelina, who organized it prior to the Antananarivo mayoral election in 2007. Nicolas Andry de Bois-Regard (1658 – 13 May 1742) was a French physician and writer. He played a significant role in the early history of both parasitology and orthopedics, the name for which is taken from Andry's book ''Orthopédie''. Early life and career Andry was born in Lyon, and spent his early life preparing for the priesthood. His early studies were widespread, however, and he published a book on the usage of the French language in 1692. Patrick Xavier Heriniaina Ramiaramanana is a Malagasy politician. He was Mayor of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, before serving in the government from 2007 to 2008.
