The Mayor of Sassari is an elected politician who, along with the Sassari's City Council, is accountable for the strategic government of Sassari in Sardinia, Italy. The elected Mayor is Giuseppe Mascia, a member of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party who was elected on 9 June 2024. Overview According to the Italian Constitution, the Mayor of Sassari is member of the City Council. The Mayor is elected by the population of Sassari, who also elect the members of the City Council, controlling the Mayor's policy guidelines and is able to enforce his resignation by a motion of no confidence. Nanni Campus (born Gianvittorio Campus, 3 September 1952) is an Italian academic and politician, Mayor of Sassari from 2000 to 2005 and from 2019 to 2024. Biography After graduating in Medicine at the University of Sassari, Campus began his career teaching in his own alma mater. Meanwhile, he joined the Italian Social Movement and he later took part in the foundation of Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia, with which he is elected to the Italian Senate in 1994 and in 1996. During 1996, he left Berlusconi's party to join Gianfranco Fini's National Alliance. 2014 Sardinian Regional Election
The Sardinian regional election of 2014 in Italy took place on 16 February 2014. Francesco Pigliaru of the Democratic Party (Italy), Democratic Party defeated the incumbent, Ugo Cappellacci of Forza Italia (2013), Forza Italia. Gianfranco Ganau (born 3 March 1955) is an Italian medic and politician who served as Mayor of Sassari from 2005 to 2014.
