Mayo-Kebbi Ouest Region
Mayo-Kebbi Ouest () is one of the 23 regions of Chad. Its capital is Pala. It is composed of the southern areas of the former prefecture of Mayo-Kebbi (sub-prefectures of Pala and Léré). Geography The region borders Mayo-Kebbi Est Region to the north-east, Tandjilé Region to the east, Logone Occidental Region to the south-east, and Cameroon to the west and north-west. The Mayo Kébbi river flows through the north the region, with Lake Léré and the smaller Lake Tréné located in the north-west. Settlements Pala is the regional capital; other major settlements include Binder, Guégou, Lagon, Lamé, Léré and Torrock. Demographics As per the 2009 Chadian census, the region had 564,470 inhabitants. The main ethnolinguistic groups are the Fula, Gidar, Mangbai, Mundang, Ngeté-Herdé peoples, Peve, Sara groups such as the Ngambay, and Tupuri. Sara People
The Sara people, sometimes referred to as the Kaba or Sara-Kaba, are a Central Sudanic ethnic group native to southern Chad, the northwestern areas of the Central African Republic, and the southern border of South Sudan. They speak the Sara languages which are a part of the Central Sudanic language family. They are also the largest ethnic group in Chad. Sara oral histories add further details about the people. Peve Language
The Pévé language, sometimes referred to as Lamé (the main dialect), is a member of the Masa branch of the Chadic family that is spoken in parts of Cameroon and the Republic of Chad. Varieties The term "Zime" is not used in Cameroon, but it is used by ALCAM (2012) to serve as a cover term for the Lame, Peve, and three varieties spoken in Cameroon. Mundang People
The Mundang people are an ethnic group in West Africa who live in parts of Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria. They speak the Mundang language, a subset of Mbum languages. Historically, the Mundang were an agricultural people; in the beginning of the 20th century they grew and harvested peas, beans, potatoes, nuts and durra. They also branched out into cotton production and raised cattle and goats. They brewed beer as well, from millet.
