Mayne Coaches was a coach operator that had depots in Manchester and Warrington. Administrators were appointed to the business, following an insolvency notice issued on 14 February 2022. Mayne Coaches now operates under the Orion Travel Group, Manchester. The company has no connection to Maynes Coaches, Buckie Scotland. History The company (A Mayne and Son) was formed by Arthur Mayne before the First World War, originally delivering furniture from its shop in Bradford, Manchester. In the 1920s Maynes branched out into coach excursions, running trips to the coast and to Buxton. They would later expand to operate trips to football matches and race meetings. By the start of the 1930s, the company had decided to concentrate on passenger transport and would continue to grow during the 1930s moving from Beswick to its present headquarters in Clayton. Clayton is a district of Manchester, England, 2.5 miles east of the city centre on Ashton New Road. History Historically in Lancashire, Clayton takes its name from the Clayton family who owned large parts of land around the area, including Clayton Vale, through which the River Medlock flows, separating Clayton from Newton Heath. Clayton was under the township of Droylsden until around 1890 when alterations to the Manchester boundary took place. Other towns added to Manchester around this time were Blackley, Crumpsall, Moston, Openshaw and Gorton. Ashton-under-Lyne is a market town in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. The population was 48,604 at the 2021 census. Manchester Velodrome is an indoor Olympic-standard cycle-racing track in Manchester, England, which opened in 1994. Part of the National Cycling Centre, the facility has been home to British Cycling since 1994, coinciding with the nation's rise to track cycling dominance at World and Olympic level.
