Larbert, New South Wales
Larbert is a locality in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region of the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales. It lies mostly north of the Kings Highway between Bungendore and Braidwood where it crosses the Shoalhaven River. At the , it had a population of 34. History Aboriginal and early settler history The area now known as Larbert lies on the traditional lands of Walbanga people, a group of Yuin. After settler colonisation, it was part of the County of Murray—west of the river, in what would become the Parish of Larbert—and east of the river was of the County of St. Vincent. It lay within the Nineteen Counties, in which settlement was permitted by the colonial government. The area was included in the surveying of the colonial lands, carried out under Thomas Mitchell's supervision. Virginia, Mayfield
Virginia is a heritage-listed homestead and former pastoral property at Charleyong Road, Mayfield, Queanbeyan-Palerang Region, New South Wales, Australia. It was built from 1830 to 1925. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 18 November 1999. History The Roberts family settled in the Braidwood district in the mid-1830s, and have associations with the pastoral properties known as Mayfield, Virginia and Ooranook. John Cocking, born in Nottingham in 1791, was married to Anna Maria Whitmore in London in 1816. It appears that the couple had eight children born between 1816 and 1834, and also changed their surname to Roberts during this time. In 1834, Maria Roberts and her children boarded the Margaret bound for Sydney, Australia, accompanied by her brother-in-law Robert Roberts (who had also changed his name) and his wife Mary. Manar, New South Wales
Manar is a locality in the Queanbeyan-Palerang Region, Southern Tablelands, New South Wales, Australia. It lies on both sides of the Kings Highway between Bungendore and Braidwood at the intersection with the Braidwood–Goulburn road. Manar was named after Manar House, which was built by Hugh Gordon (–1858) after buying the property in 1841, shortly after his marriage to Mary Macarthur, daughter of Hannibal Hawkins Macarthur. Manar House is described in the New South Wales State Heritage Register as "a good example of a Georgian homestead with outbuildings". The property had been established in the 1820s by Dr Matthew Anderson with the name of Redesdale. Gordon renamed it after his family house in Inverurie, Scotland. Argyle County
Argyle County was one of the original Nineteen Counties in New South Wales and is now one of the 141 cadastral divisions of New South Wales. It includes the area around Goulburn. It is bounded by Lake George in the south-west, the Shoalhaven River in the east, and the Wollondilly River in the north-east. Argyle County was named by Governor Macquarie after his native county in Scotland. He named it while inspecting the area in 1820.
