Max Orville
Max-Léo Orville (born 1962) is an Ivory Coast-born French politician from the Democratic Movement (France), Democratic Movement (MoDem) who served as a Member of the European Parliament from 2022 to 2024. Political career Orville was candidate in the 2021 French regional elections in Martinique. Orville joined the European Parliament in May 2022; replacing Chrysoula Zacharopoulou who was appointed to the Borne government. In parliament, he served on the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and the Special Committee on the COVID-19 Pandemic. European Parliament. Democratic Movement (France)
The Democratic Movement (, ; MoDem ) is a centre to centre-right political party in France, whose main ideological trends are liberalism and Christian democracy, and that is characterised by a strong pro-Europeanist stance. MoDem was established by François Bayrou to succeed the Union for French Democracy (UDF) and contest the 2007 legislative election, after his strong showing in the 2007 presidential election. Initially named the Democratic Party (''Parti démocrate''), the party was renamed "Democratic Movement", because there was already a small Democratic Party in France. 2021 French Regional Elections
Regional elections were held in France on 20 June and 27 June 2021. At stake were the regional councils in metropolitan and overseas France including the Corsican Assembly, Assembly of French Guiana and Assembly of Martinique, all for a six-year term. The Departmental Council of Mayotte, which also exercises the powers of a region, also participated in this election, because the departmental elections were held at the same time. Eighteen regional presidencies were at stake, with thirteen in mainland France and Corsica, as well as five overseas. Though they do not have legislative autonomy, these territorial collectivities manage sizable budgets. Moreover, regional elections are often perceived as a mid-term opinion poll. Chrysoula Zacharopoulou (born 7 May 1976) is a Greek-French gynaecologist and politician who served as Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships in the governments of successive Prime Ministers Élisabeth Borne and Gabriel Attal from 2022 to 2024. A member of La République En Marche! (LREM), she previously was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2019 to 2022. Education and early career Zacharopoulou was born into a military family in Sparta, Peloponnese, Greece. Trained in minimally invasive procedure, she received her PhD in endometriosis at the Sapienza University of Rome in Italy. From 2007, she lived in France.
