Max Griggs
William Maximillian Griggs (September 1938 – 8 July 2021) was the president of the R Griggs Group, owner of the Dr. Martens company, and one of the largest shoe manufacturers in the United Kingdom. According to the 2019 Sunday Times Rich List Griggs and his son Stephen were worth £264 million. In 1992 Max Griggs bought Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds football clubs. He merged them into one as Rushden & Diamonds F.C. He died on 8 July 2021 aged 82. The ''Sunday Times Rich List'' is a list of the 1,000 wealthiest people or families resident in the United Kingdom ranked by net wealth. The list is updated annually in April and has been published as a magazine supplement by British national Sunday newspaper ''The Sunday Times'' since 1989. Rushden Town
Rushden Town F.C. was a football club from Rushden, England. Founded in 1889, the club merged with Irthlingborough Diamonds to form Rushden & Diamonds in 1992. Nicknamed "the Russians", the club played at Hayden Road. History The club was founded in 1889 as Rushden F.C. and joined the Midland League in 1894. In 1895 the club's reserve team joined the Leicestershire and Northants League, but left the following season when it became the Leicestershire Senior League. In 1897 the club's first team also joined the United League, and played in both leagues for three seasons, before leaving the United League at the end of the 1898–99 season. In 1901 the club left the Midland League and joined the Northamptonshire League under the name Rushden Town. They left the league, but rejoined in 1919. Irthlingborough Diamonds
Irthlingborough Diamonds was a football club from Irthlingborough, England. Founded in 1946, in 1992 the club merged with Rushden Town to form Rushden & Diamonds, which played at Irthlingborough's Nene Park until financial troubles caused it to enter administration in July 2011. History Irthlingborough Diamonds were founded in 1946 and joined the United Counties League in 1964. The club won the UCL First Division in 1970–71, but were not promoted to the Premier Division until after the next season, when they finished 3rd. The 1970s and 1980s saw a sustained period of success, with the Diamonds only finishing outside the top half twice, and winning the league on three occasions. They also did well in the FA Vase, reaching the semi-finals twice (in 1981 and 1984) and the quarter-finals five times. Rushden is a town and civil parish in the North Northamptonshire district, in the ceremonial county of Northamptonshire, England, around east of Northampton.
