Max Bennett is an English actor. On television, he is best known for playing Monk Adderley in ''Poldark'' on the BBC, and Robert Southwell in '' Will'' for TNT. On film, he is best known for playing David in the Freddie Mercury biopic ''Bohemian Rhapsody'', and Brown in Guy Ritchie's crime caper '' The Gentlemen''. He has worked extensively in London theatre, with leading roles in the West End, as well as for the Donmar Warehouse, Royal Court, Young Vic, Shakespeare's Globe and the National Theatre. Early life Bennett was born in Leytonstone, London, and attended The Latymer School in Edmonton, where he was Head Boy and played the title role in ''Hamlet'' in his final year. He trained with the National Youth Theatre, appearing in their production of ''The Master and Margarita'' at the Lyric Hammersmith. Max Bennett (November 4, 1912 – January 5, 1972) was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played in one National Hockey League game for the Montreal Canadiens during the 1935–35 season, on February 11, 1935 against the New York Rangers. The rest of his career, which lasted from 1931 to 1945, was spent in the minor leagues. Max Bennett (May 24, 1928 – September 14, 2018) was an American jazz bassist and session musician. Early life Bennett grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and Oskaloosa, Iowa, and went to college in Iowa. Career His first professional gig was with Herbie Fields in 1949, and following this he played with Georgie Auld, Terry Gibbs, and Charlie Ventura. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, and then played with Stan Kenton before moving to Los Angeles. There he played regularly at the Lighthouse Cafe with his own ensemble, and played behind such vocalists as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez through the 1970s. He also recorded with Charlie Mariano, Conte Candoli, Bob Cooper, Bill Holman, Stan Levey, Lou Levy, Coleman Hawkins and Jack Montrose.
