Mawwāl
In Arabic Music, the ''mawwāl'' (; plural: ''mawāwīl'', ) is a traditional and popular Arabic genre of vocal music that is very slow in beat and sentimental in nature, and is characterised by prolonging vowel syllables, emotional vocals, and is usually presented before the actual song begins. The singer performing a mawwal would usually lament and long for something, such as a past lover, a departed family member or a place, in a wailing manner. Etymology Mawwal is an Arabic word that means "affiliated with", "associated with," or "connected to". The verb is ''waala'' (). It is measure 3 of the root verb "Walia" (), which means to follow, ''be affiliated with'', ''support'', or ''sponsor''. Originally the verbal noun has a ''Yaa'' in the definite form but it loses it when the word is indefinite. Sabah, (, , ) born Jeanette Georges Feghali, (, ) was a Lebanese singer and actress. She specialised in the Mawwāl, a popular genre of traditional music in the Arabsphere, and performed in many Egyptian films and songs. Over the course of her career, she earned many nicknames; the most popular being 'Al-Shahrura' (, , ), in reference to her her strong and rhythmic voice. Early life Sabah was born to a Maronite family in Wadi Chahrour, Aley District as the youngest of three daughters. During her childhood, she was harassed by her father who had hoped for a son. Wadih El Safi
Wadih El Safi (, born Wadih Francis; November 1, 1921 – October 11, 2013) was a Lebanese singer and composer. Born in Niha, Lebanon, Wadih El Safi started his artistic journey at the age of sixteen when he took part in a singing contest held by Lebanese Radio and was chosen the winner of all categories among 40 other competitors. Assyrian folk dances are sets of dances that are performed throughout the world by Assyrians, mostly on occasions such as weddings, community parties and other jubilant events. Assyrian folk dances are mainly made up of circle dances like ballet that are performed in a line, which may be straight, curved, or both. Most of the dances allow unlimited number of participants, with the exception of the ''Sabre Dance'', which require three at most.
