Mav Cacharel
Mav Cacharel (born January 14, 1957) is a Congolese soukous singer. Biography He began performing at age 13 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, with his first group Les Ombres. He won the Prix découvertes RFI prize in 1983. He used the money to move to Paris, where he made a living as a session singer with band Loketo composed of Aurlus Mabélé, Diblo Dibala and Jean Baron. After singing for various African and West Indian recordings, he recorded his first album, ''Chanti die !'', in 1987. In 1988, he left the group Loketo in order to create the group Kebo. He made several albums in the late 1980s with his backing band, Kebo. Loketo
Diblo Dibala (born 9 August 1954), often known simply as Diblo, is a Democratic Republic of the Congo, Congolese soukous musician, known as "Machine Gun" for his speed and skill on the guitar. He was born in 1954 in Kisangani. He moved to Kinshasa as a child, and aged 15 won a talent competition which led to him playing guitar in Francois Luambo Makiadi, Franco's TPOK band. Dibala remained with the group for only a short period, going on to play with Vox Africa, Orchestra Bella Mambo and Bella Bella, in which band he first played with Kanda Bongo Man. In 1979, he moved to Brussels, and in 1981 he joined Kanda Bongo Man's band in Paris. Their first album, ''Iyole'' (1981), was a success. Diblo became a sought after session guitarist, working with Pepe Kalle and many other soukous musicians. Soukous
Soukous (from French '' secousse'', "shock, jolt, jerk") is a genre of dance music originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) and the Republic of the Congo (formerly French Congo). It derived from Congolese rumba in the 1960s, with faster dance rhythms and bright, intricate guitar improvisation, and gained popularity in the 1980s in France. Although often used by journalists as a synonym for Congolese rumba, both the music and dance associated with soukous differ from more traditional rumba, especially in its higher tempo, song structures and longer dance sequences. Soukous fuses traditional Congolese rhythms with contemporary instruments. It customarily incorporates electric guitars, double bass, congas, clips, and brass/ woodwinds. Prix Découvertes RFI
''Prix découvertes RFI'' is the French-speaking African version of the reality singing competition, RFI Discovery Prize, and was created in 1981 to highlight new musical talents from Africa each year. This show has featured artists such as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Mav Cacharel, Rokia Traoré, Didier Awadi, Amadou and Mariam, Canjo Amissi or Maurice Kirya. Coaches and hosts The judging panel is made up of industry professionals, and is each year chaired by notable personalities such as Jacob Desvarieux, Youssou N'Dour, Angélique Kidjo, Passi, Kery James, Richard Bona, A'salfo, and Fally Ipupa. Aurlus Mabélé
Aurlus Mabélé (24 October 1953 – 19 March 2020) was a Congolese singer and composer. He was commonly referred to as the "King of Soukous". Biography Aurlus Mabélé, real name Benoit Aurélien Miatsonama, was born on 24 October 1953 in Brazzaville in the Poto-Poto district in the Republic of Congo. In 1974, he founded the group Les Ndimbola Lokole with Pedro Wapechkado, Mav Cacharel and Jean Baron. He later left the Congo for Europe, founding Loketo in 1986 with Diblo Dibala and Mav Cacharel. His soukous music swept Africa and he would be proclaimed "king", hence the slogan "It is Aurlus Mabele the new king of the soukous".
