The Chamber of Deputies () is a federal legislative body and the lower house of the National Congress of Brazil. The chamber comprises 513 deputies, who are elected by proportional representation to serve four-year terms. The current president of the chamber is the Deputy Hugo Motta ( Republicanos- PB), who was elected on 1 February 2025. Structure The number of deputies elected is proportional to the size of the population of the respective state (or of the Federal District) as of 1994. However, no delegation can be made up of less than eight or more than seventy seats. Thus the least populous state elects eight federal deputies and the most populous elects seventy. These restrictions favour the smaller states at the expense of the more populous states and so the size of the delegations is not exactly proportional to population. Rondônia () is one of the 26 states of Brazil, located in the northern subdivision of the country (central-western part). It is bordered by Acre (state), Acre in the west, Amazonas, Brazil, Amazonas in the north, Mato Grosso in the east, and Bolivia in the south. Rondônia has a population of 1,815,000 as of 2021. The Brazil Union () is a liberal-conservative political party in Brazil. The party was founded on 6 October 2021 through the merger of the Democrats (DEM) and the Social Liberal Party (PSL). Mariana Fonseca Ribeiro Carvalho de Moraes (born 26 November 1986) is a Brazilian politician. Although born in São Paulo she has spent her political career representing Rondônia, having served as federal deputy representative since 2015. Early life and education Carvalho was born to a medic, Aparício Carvalho, and Maria Sílvia Carvalho, a journalist, lawyer, economist, and professor of history. Her father was the vereador/councilman of Porto Velho, federal deputy and vice governor of Rondônia. Mariana holds a degree in law and medicine, and as of 2016 was completing medical residency in cardiology. Political career Pinato voted in favor of the impeachment against then-president Dilma Rousseff and political reformation.
