Maurizio Rattini (born 13 November 1949) is a San Marino, Sammarinese politician who was a Captain Regent, from 1 April 2012 to 1 October 2012, with Italo Righi. He also served as a Captain Regent from 1 October 1996 - 1 April 1997, with Gian Carlo Venturini. Captains Regent (; ) are the two heads of state of the Republic of San Marino. They are elected every six months by the Grand and General Council, the country's legislative body. Normally the Regents are chosen from parties in coalition and serve a six-month term. The investiture of the Captains Regent takes place on 1 April and 1 October every year. This tradition dates back at least to 1243. The practice of dual heads of government (diarchy) is derived directly from the customs of the Roman Republic, equivalent to the consuls of ancient Rome, except the Captains Regent hold no executive power. The New Socialist Party (, NPS) was a social-democratic political party in San Marino. It was formed in 2005 as a split by those among the members of the Sammarinese Socialist Party who did not accept the merger with the post-communist Party of Democrats into the Party of Socialists and Democrats. Its Italian counterpart was the New Italian Socialist Party, also affiliated with the centre-right. Italo Righi
Italo Righi (born 5 June 1959) is a Sammarinese politician who has been serving as Captain Regent alongside Denise Bronzetti since 1 April 2025. He was previously Captain Regent from 1 April 2012 to 1 October 2012, with Maurizio Rattini. Biography Italo Righi was born on 5 June 1959 in Sassofeltrio in Italy. He and his parents later moved to San Marino at some point during his childhood. Righi has been working as a driving instructor since 1990. He joined the PDCS in 1985. From 1984 to 1994 he was a member of the council of the municipality of Montegiardino, from 1997 to 2008 he was mayor ( Capitano) of Montegiardino. In 2008 he was elected to the Grand and General Council, the parliament of San Marino, on the PDCS list, and in 2012 he was re-elected to parliament.
