Tromelin Island
Tromelin Island (; , ), once called the Isle of Sand, is a low, flat island in the Indian Ocean about north of Réunion and about east of Madagascar. Both France and Mauritius claim sovereignty over the islands, and France includes it in the Scattered Islands in the Indian Ocean, the fifth district of the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. Tromelin has facilities for scientific expeditions and a weather station. It is a nesting site for birds and green sea turtles. Franco-Mauritians () form an ethnic group of white people in Mauritius who trace their ethnic ancestry to France and ethnic French people. Franco-Mauritians make up approximately 2% of the country's population. Dharambeer Gokhool (born 25 October 1949) is a Mauritian politician who is the President of Mauritius since 6 December 2024. Early life and education Gokhool was born on 25 October 1949 in the village of Plaine des Roches, Mauritius. He is from the Hindu Indo-Mauritian community.
