Maurice Silverstein
Maurice 'Red' Silverstein (1910–1999) was an American film executive who mostly worked at MGM. Biography Silverstein began as a salesman for MGM in 1927. He worked for various studios, including 20th Century Fox and Universal before returning to MGM. Before World War II he was the head of MGM's operations in Southwest Asia. During the war, he was chief of film distribution in Europe for OWI. In 1947, Silverstein was appointed head of MGM's South American markets. He later became the studio's liaison with independent producers, and then from 1960-1970 was head of MGM international. He left them to be head of production at Commonwealth United. In the 1970s he went to work in sales raising money for ''The Stranger and the Gunfighter'' (1975). He produced the film '' The Swiss Conspiracy'' (1976). The Stranger And The Gunfighter
''Là dove non batte il sole'', also known as ''The Stranger and the Gunfighter'' and ''El kárate, el Colt y el impostor'', is a 1974 kung fu Spaghetti Western comedy film directed by Antonio Margheriti and starring Lo Lieh and Lee Van Cleef. The film is based upon an original screenplay by Barth Jules Sussman who received sole screenplay credit as can be seen in the film credits. The names of the other writers listed elsewhere in this article were attached after production ended, to take advantage of Italian tax rebates. It was produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio in collaboration with an Italian company, and filmed on location in Hong Kong and Spain. The Swiss Conspiracy
''The Swiss Conspiracy'' is a 1976 action film directed by Jack Arnold and starring David Janssen, Senta Berger and Elke Sommer. It was co-produced between West Germany and the United States. Plot A Swiss bank learns that the confidentiality of several anonymous numbered accounts has been compromised and blackmail threats have been made to five holders of the accounts. They include a crooked arms dealer, who received a demand for five million Swiss francs. He refuses to pay and is shot dead. The bank is also told to pay ten million francs to keep the accounts secret. The bank hires David Christopher, a former U.S. Justice Department official who now resides in Geneva, to investigate. Betty Bryant
Elizabeth Bryant Silverstein (; 27 June 19203 October 2005), better known as Betty Bryant, was a British-born Australian actress known for playing the lead character in ''Forty Thousand Horsemen''. Early life Bryant was born on 27 June 1920 in Bristol, South West England. When she was age four, her father died. With her mother, a professional singer, she emigrated to Melbourne, Australia. In 1932, the family relocated to Sydney after Bryant's mother remarried. As a teenager, Bryant was featured on the local radio show ''The Youth Show''. Career Bryant began her career as an actress playing minor characters in film as '' The Broken Melody'' (1938) and '' Gone to the Dogs'' (1939). Her film breakthrough came when she played the lead character in ''Forty Thousand Horsemen'' (1940), which was the "first Australian film to win international success". ''Forty Thousand Horsemen'' (aka ''40,000 Horsemen'') is a 1940 Australian war film directed by Charles Chauvel. The film tells the story of the Australian Light Horse (mounted rifleman as distinct from cavalry) which operated in the desert at the Sinai and Palestine campaign during World War I. It follows the adventures of three rowdy heroes in fighting and romance. The film culminates in the charge of the Australian Light Horse at the Battle of Beersheba. The film was clearly a propaganda weapon, to aid in recruitment and lift the pride of Australians at home during World War II.
