Maurice Levin (fashion)
Maurice Levin (January 6, 1926 – August 30, 2007) was an American fashion designer, working in both men's and women's fashion in the 1950s through 1970s. He worked as a designer for Jantzen, Alex Colman of California, American Cyanamid, and Catalina. About Maurice Levin was born in 1926 in New York City, New York. He graduated in Costume Design from Traphagen School of Fashion in 1949. After graduation Levin moved to Los Angeles to attend University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) majoring in Social Science with curriculum in Apparel Design. In the 1950s he worked for the Jantzen swimwear brand, and popularized the trend of the color pink worn on men. He won two Caswell-Massey awards for design. Jantzen is a brand of swimwear that was established in 1916 and first appeared in the city of Portland, Oregon, United States. The brand name later replaced the name of the parent company that manufactured the branded products. The brand featured a logo image of a young woman, dressed in a red one-piece swimsuit and bathing hat, assuming a diving posture with outstretched arms and an arched back. Known as the Jantzen "Diving Girl", the image in various forms became famous throughout the world during the early twentieth century. History Origin Carl Christian Jantzen and brothers John A. American Cyanamid Company was an American manufacturing conglomerate. It began as a fertilizer company and added many additional lines of business before merging with American Home Products in 1994. The combined company sold off most of its divisions, adopted the name of its remaining Wyeth division, and was bought by Pfizer in 2009, becoming defunct as a separate concern. Baker in New York City in 1907, to capitalize on a German patent they had licensed for the manufacture of nitrogen products for fertilizer.
