Maura McGowan
Dame Maura Patricia McGowan, DBE (born 27 January 1957), styled The Hon. Mrs Justice McGowan, is a judge of the High Court of England and Wales. Personal life and education She was educated at Virgo Fidelis Convent School and the University of Manchester. McGowan is a Trustee of the London Irish Centre. Career She was called to the bar at Middle Temple in 1980 and began work at '''2 Bedford Row''' and Lincoln House chambe''s', specialising in Criminal law. She was appointed King's Counsel (previously Queen's) in 2001. McGowan was appointed as a Recorder in 2000 and assigned to the South Eastern circuit. She would later be appointed as a High Court judge in 2014 and be assigned to the King's Bench Division. She received the customary Dame Commander in November 2014. Bencher
A bencher or Master of the Bench is a senior member of an Inn of Court in England and Wales or the Inns of Court in Northern Ireland, or the Honorable Society of King's Inns in Ireland. Benchers hold office for life once elected. A bencher can be elected while still a barrister (usually, but not always, King's Counsel in the UK or Senior Counsel in Ireland), in recognition of the contribution that the barrister has made to the life of the Inn or to the law. Others become benchers as a matter of course when appointed as a High Court judge. Killing Of Lilia Valutyte
On 28 July 2022 at around 6:20p.m. local time, Lilia Valutyte, a nine-year-old girl, was stabbed in Boston, Lincolnshire, England outside an embroidery shop. She was later pronounced dead at Boston Pilgrim Hospital. Before the attack it is understood that Valutyte was playing with hula hoops with her younger sister. Deividas Skebas was found to be responsible for her killing. Background Lilia Valutyte was born on 2 February 2013 at Boston Pilgrim Hospital and lived in Boston. Valutyte, who was of Lithuanian origin, also had a younger sister. She studied at Boston Pioneers Academy and was a pupil at Carlton Road Primary School prior to her death. 2018 Westminster Car Attack
On 14 August 2018, three people were injured when a silver Ford Fiesta hit them near the Palace of Westminster, London, England. The car then went on to crash into the separation barrier of the pavement situated between St Margaret Street / Abingdon Street and Old Palace Yard. The Metropolitan Police responded within seconds and arrested the driver, Salih Khater, without further incident. An ambulance immediately behind the Ford stopped and gave assistance to the injured. Khater was subsequently found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and sentenced to life in prison. Events The incident occurred at 07:37 BST on 14 August 2018. John Worboys
John Derek Radford (born John Worboys, June 1957) is a British convicted serial sex offender, known as the Black Cab Rapist. Worboys was convicted in 2009 for attacks on 12 women, committed between 2007 and 2008. In 2019, he was convicted for attacks on four more women, the earliest of which took place in 2000. Police say he may have had more than 100 victims. Early life Born in Enfield, Middlesex, Worboys left school with few qualifications and was employed in jobs including milkman, junior dairy manager and security guard. He lived alone in Rotherhithe, South London, before marrying Kate Santos in 1991; the couple separated after four years.
