Maubin District
Maubin District ( ), formerly known as Thun-Khwa, is a district in Ayeyarwady Division, Myanmar. It consists of 39 wards, 235 village groups and 1642 villages organized into four townships - Maubin, Pantanaw, Nyaungdon and Danuphyu. The district lies on a flat plain, cut by many streams, which is 1,362 feet above sea level. It has an area of 1651.49 square miles (1,056,952 acres). The majority of the population are Burmese and Kayin nationals. Districts (; ) are the second-level administrative divisions of Myanmar. They are the subdivisions of the administrative divisions of Myanmar, regions and states of Myanmar. Ayeyarwady Division
Ayeyarwady Region ( , , ; formerly Ayeyarwady Division and Irrawaddy Division) is a region of Myanmar, occupying the delta region of the Ayeyarwady River (Irrawaddy River). It is bordered by the Rakhine State to the northwest, the Bago Region to the north, Bago Region and Yangon Region to the east, and the Bay of Bengal to the south and west. Maubin Township
Maubin Township ( ), alternatively spelt Ma-ubin Township is a township of Maubin District in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar. The Township borders Kyaiklat Township of Pyapon District to its south. Its western border is defined by the Irrawaddy River with Wakema Township of Myaungmya District to its west and Pantanaw Township to the northwest. Its north and northwest borders are within Maubin District with Nyaungdon Township completing the northeastern border. The township's eastern border follows the Khittaya-yaykyaw stream until it meets the Toe River, which it then follows. Pantanaw Township
Pantanaw Township ( ) is a township of Maubin District in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar. The township borders Kyonpyaw and Kyaunggon townships in Pathein District to its northwest and Einme and Wakema townships of Myaungmya District to its southwest. To the northeast, the township borders Danubyu Township and to its east it borders Maubin Township and Nyaungdon Township with the Ayeyarwaddy River forming the eastern boundary of the township. Danuphyu Township
Danubyu Township (), also spelt Danuphyu and formerly as Donabyu, is a township of Maubin District in the Ayeyarwady Region of Burma (Myanmar). Danubyu Township is known as the death place of the general Maha Bandula at Danubyu Fort effectively ending the First Anglo-Burmese War by forcing the Burmese to surrender to the British. Maubin District In Ayeyarwdy Region
Maubin ( ) is a town in the Ayeyarwady Division of south-west Myanmar. It is the seat of the Maubin Township in the Maubin District. The population as of 2021 was 51,542. The inhabitants of the town, as well as the district are mainly Bamar and Karen. During Cyclone Nargis which devastated the Irrawaddy Delta, the Burmese military offered convoys to refugees to Ma-ubin to escape the devastation in the worst-hit areas. Geography and economy Rice growing and fishing are the major contributors to the economy. It is a developing town with growing transportation and communication services. The town is linked with Yangon, 40 miles (65 km) east, by the Twante Canal which heads east. The canal opened in 1932 and improved the transporting of goods back and forth from the former capital, then known as Rangoon. Irrawaddy River
The Irrawaddy River (, , Ayeyarwady) is the principal river of Myanmar, running through the centre of the country. Myanmar’s most important commercial waterway, it is about 1,350 miles (2,170 km) long.
