Mattias Hargin
Mattias Hargin, born 7 October 1985 in Stockholm, Sweden, is a Swedish former World Cup alpine ski racer. Born in Stockholm, he competed mainly in slalom, and is the younger brother of Janette Hargin (b. 1977), who also raced for Sweden. Hargin was married to Swedish alpine free-skier Matilda Rapaport, who died in an avalanche in Chile in July 2016. He finished fifth in the slalom at the 2009 World Championships and competed for Sweden at the 2010 Winter Olympics in the slalom, finishing in 14th place. In January 2011, Hargin made a strong comeback in a World Cup slalom in Zagreb to finish third. He was the last qualifier at 30th after the first run, but had the best time in the second run to attain his first World Cup podium. Hargin was runner-up in a World Cup slalom at Val-d'Isère in December 2013. His one and only World Cup win came in January 2015 at Kitzbühel. Slalom Skiing
Slalom is an alpine skiing and alpine snowboarding discipline, involving skiing between poles or gates. These are spaced more closely than those in giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill, necessitating quicker and shorter turns. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2015 were the 43rd FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held from 2–15 February in the United States at Vail / Beaver Creek, Colorado. Athletes from over 70 nations were expected, with a worldwide television audience of an estimated 1 billion and an onsite media and broadcast entourage of approximately 1,500. Competition began on Tuesday, February 3 and concluded on Sunday, February 15, covering 13 days and two weekends. There were five men’s and five women’s individual races, along with the nation’s team event, featuring a parallel giant slalom format. Matilda Rapaport (29 January 1986 – 18 July 2016) was a Swedish alpine free-skier. She was married to Swedish alpine skier Mattias Hargin, and was the niece of Swedish actress Alexandra Rapaport. Early life Career Rapaport was the winner of the Xtreme Verbier event of the Freeride World Tour in 2013. Janette Hargin
Janette Hargin (born 4 October 1977) is a Swedish former alpine skier who competed in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. During her alpine skiing career she won six Swedish national titles and scored six top ten finishes in alpine skiing World Cup races, including a career best of second in a combined in Åre in 2002. At the 2002 Winter Olympics she finished 25th in the downhill, 27th in the super-G and 31st in the giant slalom, whilst in 2006 she finished 12th in the combined, 17th in the downhill and 22nd in the super-G. Her best result in an Alpine Skiing World Championships was a 12th in the super-G in 2003.
