Matthew Kelly (The Autumns)
Matthew Kraig Kelly is an American singer, guitarist, songwriter, and historian. Kelly is best known for his work with the influential LA rock band The Autumns, which he fronted for more than a decade (1997–2008). He is also a member of the experimental post-punk collective The Sound of Animals Fighting, and the black-metal-inspired Pyramids. In addition to his musical output, Kelly is a historian of the modern Middle East. He holds a PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), has published several articles in professional journals, and is the author of a forthcoming book with the University of California Press. Kelly currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, the dancer and choreographer Tammie Rose Johnston. They have one son. The Autumns were an American indie rock band based in Los Angeles, California, comprising Matthew Kelly (vocals, guitar), Frankie Koroshec (guitar), Dustin Morgan (bass) and Steve Elkins (drums). History Formed by childhood friends Koroshec and Kelly, the band was signed to Risk Records in 1997 and released an EP, ''Suicide at Strell Park'', and album, '' The Angel Pool'', the same year. ''The Angel Pool'' brought the band to the attention of the Cocteau Twins' Simon Raymonde and they decamped to London to record their second album ''In the Russet Gold of This Vain Hour'' with Raymonde at the controls. ''...Russet Gold'' looked set to break the band to a wider audience, drawing interest from MTV and influential Los Angeles based radio station KROQ-FM, KROQ, but shortly after its release Risk collapsed and the band found themselves without a label. Epitaph Records is an American independent record label owned by Bad Religion guitarist Brett Gurewitz. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, most acts signed to the label were punk and pop punk acts, while there are many post-hardcore and emo bands signed to the label as well. A large portion of the record label, known as Hellcat Records, is owned by Tim Armstrong, frontman of the punk rock band Rancid. The Ocean And The Sun
''The Ocean and the Sun'' is the third album by experimental rock band The Sound of Animals Fighting. The album features only the four core members that had appeared on both the first and second albums: the Nightingale, the Walrus, the Lynx and The Skunk. The first song, "Intro", is the Persian translation of the English poem "In the Desert" by Stephen Crane. The original (English) version of this poem is printed on the inside jacket of the album. It is also read in English on the eleventh track. The title of the final track, "On the Occasion of Wet Snow", is the title of the second section of Fyodor Dostoevsky's ''Notes from Underground''. The second song, "The Ocean and the Sun", features a reading from the CrimethInc. book '' Days of War, Nights of Love''. The title of the seventh track, "The Heraldic Beak of the Manufacturer's Medallion", is taken from J. G. Ballard's ''Crash''. Rx Bandits are an American four-piece band based in Seal Beach, California, United States. The band formed in 1995 in Orange County, California. They have appeared on the Vans Warped Tour, at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and at The Bamboozle. Equal Vision Records
Equal Vision Records is an independent record label based in Albany, New York. It was founded in the early 1990s by Ray Cappo, singer for the punk bands Youth of Today, Shelter, and Better Than a Thousand. The label originally existed solely to distribute Shelter and other Krishna releases. In 1992, label manager Steve Reddy bought Equal Vision from Cappo. The focus was expanded and a wider variety of bands were brought on board. According to ''Punk News'', the mid-to-late '90s saw a redoubling of the Equal Vision's hardcore efforts with such signings as One King Down and Ten Yard Fight. By the end of the '90s Equal Vision Records (EVR) had a stable of hardcore and punk bands, having added Bane, Trial, Converge and Saves the Day to its roster in the latter part of the decade. Vern Rumsey
Vernon Emmry Aldo Rumsey (January 24, 1973 – August 6, 2020) was an American musician. He rose to prominence as the bassist for the band Unwound. He generally played a Fender Jazz bass. He was also a recording engineer who has worked with bands such as Blonde Redhead, KARP, Enemymine, Novex and Replicator. Rumsey played bass guitar on the Blonde Redhead record '' Fake Can Be Just as Good'', and co-ran the label Punk in My Vitamins, with his bandmates Justin Trosper and Sara Lund.
