Matthew Harris (Australian Politician)
Sir Matthew Harris (18 September 1841 – 8 June 1917) was an Irish-born Australian politician. Life He was born in Magherafelt in County Londonderry to John Harris and Nancy Ann McKee. The family migrated to Sydney in 1842 after his father had an inheritance from his great uncle John Harris. His brothers were William Henry and John and his niece was the racing driver Vida Jones. Harris attended the University of Sydney, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1863; he inherited property from his father in 1862. On 4 August 1868 he married Frances Snowdon Lane, by whom he would have eleven children. From 1883 to 1900 he was a Sydney City alderman; he served as Mayor from 1898 to 1900. His term as mayor was marked by the sacking of the City Organist, Auguste Wiegand — an act, it was said, that was only regretted once. Potts Point is a small and densely populated suburb in inner-city Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Potts Point is located east of the Sydney central business district and is part of the local government area of the City of Sydney. James Graham (physician)
Sir James Graham (29 July 1856 – 8 March 1913) was a Scottish-born physician and politician, active in Australia. He was List of mayors, lord mayors and administrators of Sydney, Mayor of Sydney in 1901. Graham was born in Edinburgh, son of Thomas Graham, marble polisher, and his wife Jane ( ''née'' Square). Graham graduated M.A. at University of Edinburgh in 1879 and M.B. and C.M. in 1882. Graham migrated to Sydney in 1884 but then returned to Europe in August 1888 and studied at Berlin, Vienna and Paris. In 1888, he obtained the M.D. degree of Edinburgh Medical School with gold medal for his thesis on "Hydatid Disease in its Clinical Aspects". Returning to Sydney he was appointed superintendent of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital which, largely by his influence, became an excellent training-ground for the medical profession. From 1897 he was lecturer in midwifery at the University of Sydney (working under Thomas Peter Anderson Stuart) and held this position until 1912. He ... Isaac Ellis Ives
Isaac Ellis Ives (20 March 1840 – 7 December 1906) was an English-born Australian politician. Ives was born at Great Waltham in Essex to retired overseer Isaac Ives and Susanna Field. He went to London at a young age and in 1857 migrated to Sydney to work at a Tooth & Co. brewery. In 1858 he married Henrietta Weston, with whom he had three children; a second marriage, in 1865 to Elene McDonald, produced a further seven children. From 1860 he managed a number of warehouses for Tooth & Co. From 1874 to 1879 he served as 3rd Mayor to the Borough of Victoria in Sydney's Lower North Side. In 1885 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for St Leonards, serving until he retired in 1889. He was a Sydney City Councillor from 1893 to 1898, serving as 39th Mayor from 1896 to 1897. Ives died at Mosman in 1906.
