Matthew Clerke
Sir Matthew Clerke (1564 - 1 May 1623) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1614 to 1622. Clerke was born in London the son of Richard Clerke of King's Lynn. He was admitted at Christ's College, Cambridge on 11 April 1581. He was awarded BA in 1585 and MA in 1588. In 1605 he was mayor of Lynn. He was mayor of Lynn again in 1613. In 1614, he was elected Member of Parliament for King's Lynn King's Lynn, known until 1537 as Bishop's Lynn and colloquially as Lynn, is a port and market town in the borough of King's Lynn and West Norfolk in the county of Norfolk, England. It is located north of London, north-east of Peterborough, .... In 1622 he was re-elected MP for King's Lynn. Clerke died at the age 59 in 1623. King's Lynn (UK Parliament Constituency)
King's Lynn was a constituency in Norfolk represented continually in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1298 until it was abolished for the February 1974 general election. History The Parliamentary Borough of King's Lynn, which was known as Lynn or Bishop's Lynn prior to 1537, returned two Members of Parliament until 1885, when its representation was reduced to one member by the Redistribution of Seats Act 1885. It was abolished as a Borough under the Representation of the People Act 1918 and was reconstituted as a Division of the Parliamentary County of Norfolk (from 1950, a County Constituency), absorbing the bulk of the abolished North Western Division. Thomas Oxborough (died 30 December 1623) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1586 and 1614. Oxborough was the son of Thomas Oxborough of Beckham Well. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1572 and was called to the bar in 1581. He was town clerk of King's Lynn from 1584 to 1597. Sir Robert Hitcham (1572? – 1636) was a Member of Parliament and Attorney General under King James I. Early life Robert was born of lowly origin in Levington, near Ipswich, and educated at the Free School at Ipswich and later Pembroke College, Cambridge, studying law. He was admitted to Gray's Inn on 3 November 1589 from Barnard's Inn and was called to the Bar in 1595. Political career He became a Member of Parliament for West Looe, Cornwall from 1597 to 1598; for King's Lynn, Norfolk from 1604 to 1611; for Cambridge in 1614 and for Orford, Suffolk from 1624 to 1626.
