Matthew Arthur
Matthew Arthur (born 4 February 2005) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer who currently plays as a for the Newcastle Knights in the National Rugby League. He previously played for the Parramatta Eels. Background Arthur attended Patrician Brothers' College, Blacktown. Arthur came through the grades at Parramatta in Harold Matthews Cup and S.G. Ball Cup, being a part of the 2023 SG Ball winning team. He is the son of former Eels head coach Brad Arthur, and the younger brother of fellow rugby league player Jake Arthur. He played his junior rugby league at Rouse Hill Rhinos. Playing career 2024 In 2024, Arthur started the year as starting Hooker for Parramatta in NSW Cup. The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Also known as the Blues due to their sky blue jerseys, the team competes in the annual State of Origin series against Queensland. The 2024 State of Origin series was the 43rd annual best-of-three series between the Queensland and New South Wales rugby league teams. Before this series, Queensland had won 24 times, NSW 16 times, with two series drawn. Game I Game I was held at Accor Stadium in Sydney. Michael Maguire made his Origin coaching debut for New South Wales. After initially missing selection, former New South Wales captain James Tedesco was a late inclusion after an injury to Dylan Edwards. Harold Matthews Cup
The NSWRL Harold Matthews Cup is a junior rugby league competition played in New South Wales between teams made up of players aged under 17. The competition is administered by the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL). The competition is made up of NSW-based clubs and includes both junior representative teams of the elite National Rugby League (NRL) and clubs that do not field teams in the NRL competition. The competition is named after Harold Matthews, a Balmain Tigers secretary who later was appointed as manager of the Australian Test squad and later went on to become secretary of the NSWRL and ARL.
