Matteo Marsaglia (born 5 October 1985 in Rome) is a World Cup alpine ski racer from Italy and specializes in the speed events of downhill and super-G. The 49th World Cup season began on 25 October 2014, in Sölden, Austria, and concluded on 22 March 2015 at the World Cup finals in Meribel, France. The International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup tour is the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. The 44th FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup season began on 24 October 2009, in Sölden, Austria, and concluded on 14 March 2010, at the World Cup finals in Garmisch Classic, Garmisch, Germany. 2008–09 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup
The 43rd World Cup season began in late October 2008 in Sölden, Austria, and concluded in mid-March 2009, at the World Cup finals in Åre, Sweden. Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway won the overall title by two points over Benjamin Raich of Austria. Svindal returned from a season-ending injury in December 2007, and also took the season title in super-G. Lindsey Vonn of the U.S. repeated as women's overall champion, taking the title by a substantial 384 points over Maria Riesch of Germany. Vonn also repeated as the season downhill champion, and added the season title in super-G. Being an odd-numbered year, a break in the World Cup schedule was for the biennial World Championships. Birds of Prey is a FIS Alpine Ski World Cup, World Cup Downhill (ski competition), downhill Alpine skiing, ski course in the Western United States, western United States, located at Beaver Creek Resort in Avon, Colorado. Super-G
Super giant slalom, or super-G, is a racing discipline of alpine skiing. Along with the faster downhill, it is regarded as a "speed" event, in contrast to the technical events giant slalom and slalom. It debuted as an official World Cup event during the 1983 season and was added to the official schedule of the World Championships in 1987 and the Winter Olympics in 1988. Much like downhill, a super-G course consists of widely set gates that racers must pass through. The course is set so that skiers must turn more than in downhill, though the speeds are still much higher than in giant slalom (hence the name). Each athlete only has one run to clock the best time. In the Olympics, super-G courses are usually set on the same slopes as the downhill, but with a lower starting point. The FIS Alpine Ski World Cup is the top international circuit of alpine skiing competitions, launched in 1966 by a group of ski racing friends and experts which included French journalist Serge Lang (skiing), Serge Lang and the alpine ski team directors from France (Honore Bonnet) and the United States Ski Team, USA (Bob Beattie (skiing), Bob Beattie).
