Matt Hossack
Matt Hossack (born February 02, 1994) is a Canadian professional box lacrosse player who currently plays with the Panther City Lacrosse Club of the National Lacrosse League. College career Hossack attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year for two straight seasons with the RIT Tigers. At RIT he finished 5th all time in ground balls with 369 ground balls, as well as second all time in caused turnovers with 139. Professional career Hossack was drafted 14th overall by the Saskatchewan Rush in 2016. He went on to win one NLL Championship in the 2018 NLL Cup Finals with the Rush. He was drafted in the 2020 NLL expansion draft by the Panther City Lacrosse Club. Port Perry is a community located in Scugog, Ontario, Canada. The town is located northeast of central Toronto and north of Oshawa and Whitby. Port Perry has a population of 9,453 as of 2016. The RIT Tigers are composed of 22 teams representing Rochester Institute of Technology in intercollegiate athletics, including men and women's basketball, crew, cross country, ice hockey, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, tennis, and track and field. Men's sports include baseball and wrestling. Women's sports include softball, and volleyball. Lacrosse Transitions
Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. Minto Cup
The Minto Cup is awarded annually to the champion junior men's box lacrosse team of Canada. It was donated in 1901 by the Governor-General, Lord Minto. Originally restricted to amateurs, within three years the first under-the-table professional teams were already competing for it. After 1904, with efforts to keep the professionals out of competition proving to be futile, it was made open to all challengers. The last ''successful'' amateur challenge came in 1908 when New Westminster Salmonbellies won it; the last amateur challenge was made in 1913 by Vancouver Athletic Club. This would be the only time in Canadian lacrosse history when the Mann Cup champions (Vancouver) faced the Minto Cup champions (New Westminster) head-to-head – with the silverware (Minto) going to the winner. The Liberty League is an intercollegiate athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division III.
